) is kind of close to that because he's not as big of a troublemaker as people think he is. But he's still more of a punk than a meek creep. Jun might also apply (and does do irredeemable things under the influence of le eternal Jew) but he's too blatantly gay, maybe that's creepy in its own way in Japan.

It always seemed like the place of unexplored archives (basically dungeons but with LORE) where you'd fight mummies and secret societies and shit. Maybe that perception came from my baby game or maybe that's why I enjoyed the EGYPT place in baby game so much, maybe it was a little bit of both. Again, I would DEMAND you play baby game if you wanted a taste of quaint Egypt kid fantasy world if they didn't shit up the first world so much. And I especially wouldn't ask it now when they seem to be back to making stuff free for only one week.
I know now that I like Egypt and shrunken heads and lay anthropology and globe-trotting """"""archeologist"""""" pulp. I wish I somehow entertained that side of me more as a kid. They should have known (and maybe did) that this was going to be received poorly by the masses but they went and got indignant about it anyway.
I think most of the criticism of around Alex YIIK is valid (in that he talks a lot and none of it is useful or interesting or even funny) but all of the fixes and counter-examples are completely retarded. The real post-modern route to go about this is "You're just going to have to suffer through his shit in order to experience YIIK" because at the end of the day, it's just a divisive creative choice, not necessarily good or bad unless you're aiming for lowbrow popcorn-munching gobbledygook where you're never supposed to feel frustrated or conflicted about the characters (and if you do, they immediately get punished.)
In general, they did listen to (most) criticism and sort of bumbled their way into making the game better. It was definitely a process and they made some bad decisions. Better than Undertale/Deltarune? I don't know, I guess it's up to your palette. Actually, the dialogue and mockable off-note character moments are the highlight of the game because they're often unintentionally funny. The gameplay and aesthetics are deeply monotonous, ugly, and buggy, but this usually goes mentioned because there's nothing funny or interesting about this.
>Creatively though? I prefer their messy gobbledygook to "no talku" panic bawwwlete
Fobby.Yike is trying to present itself as highbrow fiction but it's made by 110 IQ normie libtard soyjaks, Deltarune is trying to present itself as a humble childhood story conceived of in notebook scribbles but it's made by an epic N5 JRPG loremaster. >The gameplay and aesthetics are deeply monotonous, ugly, and buggyI mean, yeah. I don't know about gameplay because I don't have the newest version. I really doubt it's anything special for a JRPG after the revisions.
>110 IQ
>it fails at being pretentious

There's a lot of irony and sarcasm going on here and I'm not sure what's meant even in the vaguest sense (it's not simply a matter of me not knowing what's sincere or not, the exact sentiment being expressed is kind of muddled to me.)
I was talking about the process of making a game. YIIK released something haphazard and experimental and then threw shit at the wall to try and fix it. "I'm not going to speculate on how genuinely experimental TUNDRA EEL is or isn't." Though, granted, a lot of YIIK's experimentalism is just it being ill-conceived like the stat distribution system which makes zero sense if you think about it for like 30s. Deltarune's decade long odyssey with almost zero transparency (on transparency, I guess I'm conflicted. On the one hand, I hate devs blogging because I think it's bad for them. On the other hand, I value transparency and I think it's useful for everyone else) and only like one notable instance of him responding to critique and it was, again, a panicked decision that didn't get any real explanation for its inclusion or removal.
Slightly unrelated but I do think YIIK is "post-modern" and "self-aware" but I also think it's pretentious. A lot of people seem to be under the impression that you have to lack self-awareness to be pretentious which is an intuitive thing to think. But a lot of pretentious shit comes from being too self-aware. Someone that recognizes their own qualities or the qualities of their story but overestimates how profound they are or how much influence it'll have over others. YIIK understood what it was, it just thinks what it is is way more important than anyone playing it does. I guess this comes down to semantics because people can and do argue that a large part of self-awareness is understanding your influence over others or how you're perceived by others which I won't say isn't important, I just think YIIK is self-aware in spite, not independent, of that fact.
This is a lot of writing for something I feel like you won't respond to. Our conversations tend to end on my first reply.

The posterchild of (implicitly bad) "quirky Earthbound-inspired RPGs" and millennials being le bad and whatever. Any of the changes, snark or no snark, good or bad are only cared about by Channers with a morbid sense of curiosity. I don't think there's a single dedicated or semi-dedicated "the YIIK bros did WHAT?!?!?!" dramabait channel on YouTube but feel free to prove me wrong. You can say they were trying to get eyes on it with the base game having D.C Douglas and Fobby banging out a tune but past that, I don't know, dude. Not many people give a shit about YIIK beyond "CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE
Gargamel's Castle IS GOING ON"
Some things can be looked at cynically, like the Golden Alpaca (expanding on him, still with Wesker's V.A) thing but I think the story is closer to "desperately trying to save face and be respected by someone, anyone" than "trying to rise back into relevance" Neither is a good look but one is slightly more earnest. The need for approval is obviously not to be conflated with some dedication to artistic integrity, after all. They just want to wring something meaningful out of what is, by basically every definition, a creative failure. They're willing to concede some ground (and sometimes be passive-aggressive about it) but have stuck to their guns in other places I think that's what makes it interesting.
Obligatory

mention because I, at least, think the parallel is obvious. Being more sincere in creating art than Jr is not a very high bar but I think they pass it.
