>>24665>I like being surprised by stories that take bizarre turns even if they don't make sense or disregard previous setupwwhyAnd your elaboration just corroborates what I said. "safer professional project" is "convention" which does not have "bizarre turns" that "don't make sense or disregard previous setup."
You're saying that there could be and have been things where the skills and resources to make "bizarre turns" that "don't make sense or disregard previous setup" work exist. I think this implies you find narrative convention to be predictable because you don't consider a "safer professional project" that has things to "make the story work on a basic level" having surprising turns that still make sense. So narrative convention is, implicitly, boring. What does it matter, I don't really care, and more importantly, who cares what I think

I wonder if there's a guy on /v/ that would get mad if you said Mario had no personality. If you made a thread with a picture of Mario that said "Mario has no personality", he'd probably say something something not a quirky black dyke cat or whatever and move on. I think you have to catch him in the middle of a conversation, maybe comparing him to Sonic or something. Then you'd really see this hypothetical person chimp out. But it's only a theory.
https://arch.b4k.dev/v/search/text/mario%20has%20no%20personality/ does net you some weird shit and seemingly "one guy" and the possible conversations that'd set him off but I'm not digging too deep. Old threads are a unique kind of fun though. I guess they're more soothing because you don't have any temptations to respond to the retards? You just sort of gawk and move on.
Anyway, Mario DOES have a personality.

Monday morning always comes too soon.
Just left the school Friday afternoon.
Pens and notebooks papers everywhere.
Don’t they have an app to clean my room?
All I really wanna do is hit the ball.
Make the final score and win the game for all.
Sneakers, lockers, v-ball, running on the court.
Hey, stay, get attack, and block them.
Walking down the hall.
Now I see you.
Tell me where you’ve been all of my life.
Walking down the hall.
Now I see you.
Where have you been?
Hey let’s chat now.
You want to go with me to the dance?
Just text me back, let me know.
Tell me will you be my date at the party?
Then boy meets girl and life is so good.
When I met you I knew you were the right one.
We’re on the phone we’ll text forever. (LOL ROFL LYMY)
I know you love chocolate and ice cream.
I’ll cheer you on at all your games forever.
My girl cheers me on always. (I am your fan always forever.)
Let’s go get some cheeseburgers and fries.
When I’m with you nothing else matters. Cause you’re here with me forever.
I know you love chocolate and ice cream.
I’ll cheer you on at all of your games.

FROM THE DESK OFROSE LALONDE
They sent heavily armored British police. Sent them in force. Sent them with cannons.
Not to stop the grooming gangs. Not to stop the stabbings, the gougings, the decapitations. Not to stop the slaughter of children.
No, they were sent to stop you from talking about them.
These self same officers knew little British girls were being subjected to some of the most horrific abuse possible. And did nothing. Stood down. Looked the other way.
But now word's gotten out. Now there's discussion. Now there's concern. Now the natives are realizing that the whole children getting knifed thing isn't nearly as rare as they were told. Constantly.
Keep in mind these police know the Northern Irish have tried petitions, tried elections, tried lawsuits. They have tried every legal means they could conceive of, every legal means possible. And even when Northern Irish won the Government just went ahead and did it anyway.
As a species humans don't have a word in any language to describe a game that's rigged in such a manner that the opposition only plays it to show you how much they can cheat, get away with it, and call themselves the winner just to demoralize you so you give up and stop playing altogether.
These police know this too. They know about the grooming gangs and the violations, and the corruption. They know all of this. Every single one of those "police officers" knows their own leaders and their fellow officers turned a blind eye when a little girl had her tongue nailed down to make it easier to violate her.
I mean just ask yourself. How much would they have to pay you to turn a blind eye to that kind of child violation?
Because we know how much the average cop makes in the UK and it's nothing to brag about. Yet they show up to work anyway. They collect a paycheck anyway. And they don't care about your human rights, or ethics, or good and evil. They don't share your lofty virtues. They do what they're told.
Because, and I want to make this painfully clear, these are not your countrymen. They are not your friends or fellow citizens.
These policemen are the enforcement arm of an occupational government that will kill you as soon as listen to you choke out on your own blood as they cuff you. They won't think twice. They will shed no tears.
Are these men the enemy of the People? I'll let you decide. But I'm pretty comfortable saying they aren't your friends.
And they are definitely not legitimate. They're just men with clubs, given permission. - RL No.24706

It's weird because it also gives much more impetus to Walter who wants to hear the Chaos things because he is Chaos and Jonathan just wants the status-quo and is reluctant to go Law but goes Law because of how much he dislikes Chaos. Vaguely, they are still Tokyo vs. Mikado but it's more like it's not!Mikado vs. Mikado. Walter's motivation is that Tokyo sucks and the reason why vaguely applies to Mikado and Johnathan still kind of likes Mikado. Mikado wanting to annihilate Tokyo is kind of a non-factor since so much of the game is focused on THE INTRIGUE… of Tokyo and ALTERNATE REALITY AKIRAS. If I'm not mistaken, it's a pretty late reveal too?
It really just boils down to
>Man, the world is smurfed up, I desire upheaval>You're going too farAnd all of the allegiances and LORE and whatever is irrelevant. They are character arcs in the sense that they're just reacting to all the things that happen but none of the specifics matter and that's what's so annoying about 4. I think the alignment split should happen sooner so the alignment heroes can actually show some agency and it be closer to REASON endings with each specific faction being a slight variant.

I think my least favorite Internet argueman is the one who's clearly just particularly upset that thing is liked (OLD THING or MY THING being better optional.) That's your Arin Hanson and Spoony.
I've made peace with the fact that I only give Woodstock so much thought because people think it's the best webcomic of all time, had great writing, is some kind of masterpiece, has so much money flying around it, challenged the medium, was some important cultural touching stone, think it had some great influence, etc, etc The creator being a pompous ass also doesn't help.
I don't think there's some great cultural war to be won by complaining about though there are some flashes of that, me not wanting it to influence people. But I don't really think it represents anything unique or definitive for anything. It's ultimately just a webcomic that'd bore and disappoint most people who try to get into it. It doesn't deserve that much thought, the writer didn't really put himself into it as much as anyone would hope. It's just kind of a piece of shit that happened to be popular. I think I've made peace with my demons. I don't think I'm as big of a tool as those two. At least, I hope I'm not.

2) Most of the people that praised OoT back in the day didn't like it for its puzzle design or anything, they liked it because it was an impressively fleshed out 3D world. Everyone trying to "copy" OoT just went in on that instead. This is why all these "Zelda fans" love BotW so much, and why the games that focus more on actual gameplay and have smaller worlds (MM, SS, the DS games) are divisive.
3) There were a bunch of Zelda-y games on Sega consoles like Thor and Sylvan Tale. There are plenty of very shameless indie 2D Zelda ripoffs these days. 3D ones are rare but there's Ookami and Oceanhorn off the top of my head.

I really doubt Arin was disappointed by Ocarina of Time after Link To The Past, I think he just remembers being slightly frustrated and then blowing that up after hearing years of people jerk it off too much. Spoony MIGHT have been disappointed by Final Fantasy 8 but he made it sound like he saw the writing on the wall with 7 which he seems lukewarm for, same thing with the Ultimas, really.
Woodstock is very strongly disappointing. Past le switcheroo, you get the feeling "Okay, this guy might make bad decisions" and Act 3 and 4 have funny and cool moments but you're getting the sneaking suspicion that he can't juggle all these things. Then Act 5 Act 1 rolls around and you're like, okay, this is tedious but hopefully, once we're out of it we'll return to form and then Act 5 Act 2 comes around and it has some of the better "Hu¢¢ie actually tries writing seriously" moments but also some of the worst shit in the comic. And then Act 6 comes around and you're like okay, this is tedious, but hopefully we return to form. But then we never do. And you've invested so much time and gotten so attached that you're just sort of stuck waiting for occasional glimmers of quality (which there are like, a handful in the some 4000 pages- I originally wrote 6000 because my memory is terrible and that's what it feels like) or for it to make some big U-turn that fixes everything. And then the homestretch is just complete garbage that you only view out of some voyeuristic compulsion. So it's the hype and the disappointment. It being one continuous thing from the exact same guy (seemingly) doing whatever he wants makes cautious optimism a bit more logical. That's why I gave it brainspace. It's not some strawman for my real or imagined enemies as much I as I prop up Hu¢¢ie as the epitome of Mystery Box assholes. Meh, I guess it is just fanboyism-turned-sour anyway. But I recognize it and I do hate the creator a lot more than the fans which is what I will now say is the important part- I don't think those jackasses can say the same.

Like, what's the point of red scare posting when communism is practically dead now? Can you name a major communist threat that's actually communist and not just pretending to be? China barely counts because aside from their government owning all the land and other things, their policies tend to promote consumerism and capitalism more than anything. That's not likely to change either now that Chinese people are so addicted to spending which makes the government a lot of money.
I don't count North Korea because only crazy people think it's an actual communist country instead of a family dictatorship larping as a country. Despite preaching juche, North Korea has little in terms of actual policies besides keeping Kim Jong Un and his associates fed and unopposed. I'm not a "real communism has never been tried" kind of guy, nor am I a communist in general, but like, just look at it. North Korea is a joke. It wasn't when it started. In fact, it was probably a bigger threat when it started since their economy was stronger than South Korea's in the beginning and they had Soviet support. I'd say around the time Kim Jong Il took over, or maybe a little bit before, they shifted from a country attempting their own form of communism to just a cult of personality. So like, I'll recognize Mao's China and Kim Il Sung's North Korea as real communist, but they've shifted so far away from those ideas by this point.
So what does that leave us with? Vietnam? That's a big one, I guess, but I doubt Vietnam's trying to ruin the west. Its biggest enemy is China and they're constantly trying to take Chinese jobs.
Laos is another communist country. People pretend to care about Laos, but I doubt many actually do outside of how Lao people got killed by Americans and the Vietnamese during the war.
Finally, there's Cuba. Nothing going on there anymore either. It's a small country where people toil in poverty, and they probably will continue to do so until they change their government to something that America approves of which would end the embargo.
Anyway, the point I was getting at is that we don't live in the past anymore. Communism was defeated. Let us all embrace the modern douyin lifestyle of vanity and designer blind box extravagance in 2032.
No.25173
>>25169>Like, what's the point of red scare posting when communism is practically dead now? I mean, people will say "the cold war is over boomer" all the time, but is it really?

To me, Communism wasn't bad because of "free healthcare" or whatever, it was bad because of the stories I'd heard of the the imprisonments over simply saying something the Party didn't like, the surveillance and spying, the way they'd shoot people just for trying to cross a wall. That was what Communism was to me, and I thought "man, am I glad that's over, at least in Europe". But it's clearly making a comeback.
I guess this ties into my, and other late-millennials', upbringing at the End of History, where we were told that there'd be no more great wars, and that future conflicts would be like, computer hacking between corporations or something, while American and Russian soldiers would be "peace-keepers" fighting some non-descript "terrorists". The point is, Russian hostility toward the west is back, if it even went anywhere. After 2022 it's become too obvious for anyone to ignore in good faith.
As for North Korea (and Cuba), they ARE both trying to ruin the west, or at least help Russia to. They're sending volunteers to fight in the invasion of Ukraine, and we all know that noone normally is allowed out of those countries without a pass from the boss-man.
>Communism was defeated. Let us all embrace the modern douyin lifestyle of vanity and designer blind box extravagance in 2032.I wish we lived in a world where I could share your optimism (again).

In any case, people will call you a cold warrior and a boomer for opposing the current Russian Federation, while being stuck in permanent struggle mode against "Fascists" and "Nazis" despite that there hasn't been a capital F Fascist government in power for 50 years. Sometimes, even in the same breath.

>>25173>I wish we lived in a world where I could share your optimism (again).I wouldn't really say I'm optimistic. I was raised to believe that humans are not born good, and are inherently selfish. I don't think humans are inherently evil, but I do think most people are apathetic to the suffering of others until they understand what suffering is. Even then, something has to come from within to want to help others. I think of people as being morally gray until they decide to make choices in their lives. The funny thing here is that communism tends to be optimistic. It relies on trust that other humans will be good as opposed to capitalism and consumerism that only rely on the predictable human desire to want things.

It's amazing yet not really surprising that there are no "horde shooters" that really out-do Left4Dead imho. I know every Special Infected being "Punishes you for leaving the group/forces you to leave the group" is a bit redundant but I think you need them alongside "punishes you for sitting ontop of each other" which only really The Tank does. A lot of horde shooters I have don't have this and instead just have a bunch of big things come after you. There is no resource management in the Left4Deads nor any horde shooters I've seen.
An even less realistic gaming fantasy is the horde shooter that's a zombie "one-bite-and-you're-smurfed" simulator where you can cut off limbs or take drugs just to make into the campaign or turn in some way, probably into a special infected. This would be even harder to achieve but come on, it's kind of what videogames are for.

And the Jockey could be a spastic that swipes everyone around him to discourage ass-to-ass gameplay or one that mindjacks you, IDK, there needs to be more "forces you apart" monsters.
Otherwise, it just turns into "sitting around, sniping the threats" and I've seen high-level Left4Dead 2 players who could solo shit (designed for a full team) for a really long time because of the skill ceiling which should just not happen, I suppose that's the opposite of just effectively being a turret shooter. Most MMORPGs or weird stuff like Genshin too… Roblox will quickly disillusion, frustrate and bore anyone who isn't autistic. I could keep going. Maybe CS2 isn't good because of how competitive it is.) But surely there are (multiplayer) games out there, I wouldn't know exactly… The easy answer is to suggest single player games but those require a certain palette and you kind of need to dig for the good stuff if you have standards.

There's obviously some nuance to what makes intuition in art good even if it leads to "messy" art. It's something that I can't quite articulate but neither can the side that says all intuition is good without devolving into platitudes. But obviously, a lot of intuition works when there are some "outside constraints" around whether they be real or imagined within the logic of the story. I'm reminded of the one Anon who said that Anno was being intuitive and failed with the Rebuilds because he was trying to logically reconstruct that. I guess it's a good case study. The whole idea that creativity and interesting new things come from retard amateurs making shit "without having any idea how to make one" is just so fundamentally smurfing stupid and disrespectful to the actual pioneers they are pretending to look up to. What the smurf even makes them think that you can't do what filmmakers (supposedly) do with film to gameplay? They say to "push the limit," but apparently the limit for gameplay got pushed only a couple decades into the genres birth? Just don't make video games. Go write books or comics or movies or something. Why do you even insist on being here?
This entire take on "art" is just disgusting to me. Artistry comes from mastery of the craft, not from "self-expression" that is the equivalent of a child scribbling on a wall with crayons. What the smurf is "pervert cinema". Particularly in video games, where these retards insist that a significant portion of the craft is something you shouldn't care about and need to half ass in order to achieve some "greater goal," which is usually a shitty story that could have been a book or music video. I really want all of these people to be removed from society forever.

smurfing observation that art in the post-modern era was fundamentally defined by formal experimental competitive comeuppance and self-reflective deconstructive rigor.
Even the stupidest of video nasties were made by film students BTW. A lot of grindhouse utilizes both techniques of mainstream and arthouse cinema and that's why it can be so interesting.

Also, I'm not sure what the joke even is or really, what's happening at all. What is being visually conveyed? Is Phylis too drunk? Who's talking in the fourth panel?
