>>24665>I like being surprised by stories that take bizarre turns even if they don't make sense or disregard previous setupwwhyAnd your elaboration just corroborates what I said. "safer professional project" is "convention" which does not have "bizarre turns" that "don't make sense or disregard previous setup."
You're saying that there could be and have been things where the skills and resources to make "bizarre turns" that "don't make sense or disregard previous setup" work exist. I think this implies you find narrative convention to be predictable because you don't consider a "safer professional project" that has things to "make the story work on a basic level" having surprising turns that still make sense. So narrative convention is, implicitly, boring. What does it matter, I don't really care, and more importantly, who cares what I think

I wonder if there's a guy on /v/ that would get mad if you said Mario had no personality. If you made a thread with a picture of Mario that said "Mario has no personality", he'd probably say something something not a quirky black dyke cat or whatever and move on. I think you have to catch him in the middle of a conversation, maybe comparing him to Sonic or something. Then you'd really see this hypothetical person chimp out. But it's only a theory.
https://arch.b4k.dev/v/search/text/mario%20has%20no%20personality/ does net you some weird shit and seemingly "one guy" and the possible conversations that'd set him off but I'm not digging too deep. Old threads are a unique kind of fun though. I guess they're more soothing because you don't have any temptations to respond to the retards? You just sort of gawk and move on.
Anyway, Mario DOES have a personality.

Monday morning always comes too soon.
Just left the school Friday afternoon.
Pens and notebooks papers everywhere.
Don’t they have an app to clean my room?
All I really wanna do is hit the ball.
Make the final score and win the game for all.
Sneakers, lockers, v-ball, running on the court.
Hey, stay, get attack, and block them.
Walking down the hall.
Now I see you.
Tell me where you’ve been all of my life.
Walking down the hall.
Now I see you.
Where have you been?
Hey let’s chat now.
You want to go with me to the dance?
Just text me back, let me know.
Tell me will you be my date at the party?
Then boy meets girl and life is so good.
When I met you I knew you were the right one.
We’re on the phone we’ll text forever. (LOL ROFL LYMY)
I know you love chocolate and ice cream.
I’ll cheer you on at all your games forever.
My girl cheers me on always. (I am your fan always forever.)
Let’s go get some cheeseburgers and fries.
When I’m with you nothing else matters. Cause you’re here with me forever.
I know you love chocolate and ice cream.
I’ll cheer you on at all of your games.

FROM THE DESK OFROSE LALONDE
They sent heavily armored British police. Sent them in force. Sent them with cannons.
Not to stop the grooming gangs. Not to stop the stabbings, the gougings, the decapitations. Not to stop the slaughter of children.
No, they were sent to stop you from talking about them.
These self same officers knew little British girls were being subjected to some of the most horrific abuse possible. And did nothing. Stood down. Looked the other way.
But now word's gotten out. Now there's discussion. Now there's concern. Now the natives are realizing that the whole children getting knifed thing isn't nearly as rare as they were told. Constantly.
Keep in mind these police know the Northern Irish have tried petitions, tried elections, tried lawsuits. They have tried every legal means they could conceive of, every legal means possible. And even when Northern Irish won the Government just went ahead and did it anyway.
As a species humans don't have a word in any language to describe a game that's rigged in such a manner that the opposition only plays it to show you how much they can cheat, get away with it, and call themselves the winner just to demoralize you so you give up and stop playing altogether.
These police know this too. They know about the grooming gangs and the violations, and the corruption. They know all of this. Every single one of those "police officers" knows their own leaders and their fellow officers turned a blind eye when a little girl had her tongue nailed down to make it easier to violate her.
I mean just ask yourself. How much would they have to pay you to turn a blind eye to that kind of child violation?
Because we know how much the average cop makes in the UK and it's nothing to brag about. Yet they show up to work anyway. They collect a paycheck anyway. And they don't care about your human rights, or ethics, or good and evil. They don't share your lofty virtues. They do what they're told.
Because, and I want to make this painfully clear, these are not your countrymen. They are not your friends or fellow citizens.
These policemen are the enforcement arm of an occupational government that will kill you as soon as listen to you choke out on your own blood as they cuff you. They won't think twice. They will shed no tears.
Are these men the enemy of the People? I'll let you decide. But I'm pretty comfortable saying they aren't your friends.
And they are definitely not legitimate. They're just men with clubs, given permission. - RL No.24706

It's weird because it also gives much more impetus to Walter who wants to hear the Chaos things because he is Chaos and Jonathan just wants the status-quo and is reluctant to go Law but goes Law because of how much he dislikes Chaos. Vaguely, they are still Tokyo vs. Mikado but it's more like it's not!Mikado vs. Mikado. Walter's motivation is that Tokyo sucks and the reason why vaguely applies to Mikado and Johnathan still kind of likes Mikado. Mikado wanting to annihilate Tokyo is kind of a non-factor since so much of the game is focused on THE INTRIGUE… of Tokyo and ALTERNATE REALITY AKIRAS. If I'm not mistaken, it's a pretty late reveal too?
It really just boils down to
>Man, the world is smurfed up, I desire upheaval>You're going too farAnd all of the allegiances and LORE and whatever is irrelevant. They are character arcs in the sense that they're just reacting to all the things that happen but none of the specifics matter and that's what's so annoying about 4. I think the alignment split should happen sooner so the alignment heroes can actually show some agency and it be closer to REASON endings with each specific faction being a slight variant.

I think my least favorite Internet argueman is the one who's clearly just particularly upset that thing is liked (OLD THING or MY THING being better optional.) That's your Arin Hanson and Spoony.
I've made peace with the fact that I only give Woodstock so much thought because people think it's the best webcomic of all time, had great writing, is some kind of masterpiece, has so much money flying around it, challenged the medium, was some important cultural touching stone, think it had some great influence, etc, etc The creator being a pompous ass also doesn't help.
I don't think there's some great cultural war to be won by complaining about though there are some flashes of that, me not wanting it to influence people. But I don't really think it represents anything unique or definitive for anything. It's ultimately just a webcomic that'd bore and disappoint most people who try to get into it. It doesn't deserve that much thought, the writer didn't really put himself into it as much as anyone would hope. It's just kind of a piece of shit that happened to be popular. I think I've made peace with my demons. I don't think I'm as big of a tool as those two. At least, I hope I'm not.

2) Most of the people that praised OoT back in the day didn't like it for its puzzle design or anything, they liked it because it was an impressively fleshed out 3D world. Everyone trying to "copy" OoT just went in on that instead. This is why all these "Zelda fans" love BotW so much, and why the games that focus more on actual gameplay and have smaller worlds (MM, SS, the DS games) are divisive.
3) There were a bunch of Zelda-y games on Sega consoles like Thor and Sylvan Tale. There are plenty of very shameless indie 2D Zelda ripoffs these days. 3D ones are rare but there's Ookami and Oceanhorn off the top of my head.

My least favorite type of video is "ERM ACKSHULLY THIS IS AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION" and then proceeds to overly simplify the exact antithesis (while still prattling on aimlessly about other things too of course) and go "Wow, look at how dumb and biased they were for thinking something within their limited frame-of-reference" and doing that same thing too. Not referencing anything specific. Especially not a video I posted.
