>>23633>1) Yes it does. https://wiki.libsdl.org/SDL3/SDL_EventOkay I misremembered, it does have keyup/down events but it doesn't have repeat delay which I had to implement myself and it was very annoying.
>2) The renderer handles the formats for you.I'm not sure how I know about that page then, I think I was trying to convert a loaded image to greyscale and it was very confusing. I think I used SDL_Image and ran into problems.
>you'd need millions of collisions before it becomes slowThat's only 1000 boxes if your algorithm is O(N^2) so you at least should have separate static/dynamic colliders, you also should return some information that allows an object to stop cleanly against another object so there isn't imprecise movement
>4) You're not looking at what I said. That tutorial is from decades ago. I've written multiple renderers in OpenGL and Vulkan. I know exactly how painful it is and that is why I am saying don't do that.I wanted a shader in my 2D game though, and it was easy to get it working in Godot.
I'm just bringing up the SDL trauma I remember, I don't think SDL3 had released yet when I was doing this. Anyway stop denying my lived experience, I should go back to bashing my head against the wall

Not reading but I agree with the opening arguments. It always perplexed me how people seemed to take the lore of Undertale seriously, when even the surface level presentation felt unconvincing and incoherent, like there's a "town" that is just 6 buildings and a few NPCs and they're monsters or something, there's supposed to be an underground kingdom but is it just 20 people or 200 or what

>>23679>>23680>>23681I know this is a cringe talking point but from what I've seen of the game, Mina seems to be written in a very "girl boss" way which I find distasteful. Not only is she a badass adventurer, she also just so happens to be a genius inventor that revolutionized her world. She is also a void of charisma and is extremely terse in a way that doesn't read as neutral so much as "agitated." Given the tone of the game, I would have much preferred a "determined but perky" mouse. She feels like she's written to remind you that the world is
grimDARK despite all the silly shit or, again, to be a STRONG FEMALE PROTAGONIST that isn't remotely charming.

I feel like that even if you have DEIbrain, you should acknowledge that
wwomenfolk and transwomen face different problems and so they should probably "require" different representation. I feel like if you said that about Wonder Woman (who was conceived basically as femdom as a form of Cultural Marxist feminism), you'd get called a TERF. "Woke" seems to be losing its nuances, even if some were arbitrary. In a way, that makes it stronger? IDK.

I think I already talked about this but I think the worst villain trope is "Rebel you learn is justified but uses the wrong methods" that then leads into you or them defeating the status quo and them, the order kind of depends. It falls into this weird gray area of "The status quo is good and worth fighting to preserve" but also "THINGS NEED TO CHANGE" without being a story about reform because that'd be BORING so let the entire narrative implicitly glorify terrorism because the rule of law still applies to the terrorist at the end of the day.

cur reading a script with relative competence and some shit about Tupca's cousin(?) and family. With additional context, it becomes less funny because it seemed like a period piece from the trailer but the actual game takes place over half a decade so Tupac showing up isn't as stupid- I mean, strong "as" here. The rest was just "EVERYDAY, THE SAME SHIT" cringe and tedium with one awkward "haha look at my cringe comedy body language" German wholesome scrunkly deserving of rape.
The only game that looked good and like something I'd enjoy was Zero Company because it's a tactical strategy game made by ex-XCOM (stupid) devs. However, it's under EA and there's going to be this delicate dance of frustration what they will remake or make canon and what they won't because it's Prequels. I probably shouldn't care. There's no particular reason I do. I just hate the corporate smell to all of it.

>Oh, fairThere are some hints of good humor ruined by thesaurus talk or an unneeded word or a general lack of subtlety but it is mostly very tedious (without a hint of good humor.) Examples being "I can't believe I was swimming in an unchlorinated haunted swimming pool" (where the haunted part explains the joke) and the bit about the moralizing painter eating a woman with the addendum that "that doesn't mean we can't still learn from his work" which just deflates the irony.
For the most part, it is "highbrow" (uses big words and purple prose) hipster yarnball satirizing highbrow hipster yarnball, "the art world" which is probably my least favorite thing ever and it's what 90% of "alternative" art is, especially anyth
'slid with a lick of humor. Dropping the highbrow part for the first half, it's also exactly what PeePee PooPoo is. Hipster yarnball making fun of highbrow (haughtier; again, "the art world") hipster yarnball without realizing how self-indulgent it itself is. Or maybe it does. It doesn't matter. All that matters is that it's a hipster Ouroboros where good fun and good taste and good go out the window for an experiential "point" on the absurdity of living in a SOCIETY.

In trying to find the exact way the title "PeePee PooPoo" was stylized, I found this article licking C*sh's asshole clean:
https://www.tcj.com/reviews/peepee-poopoo-420/It's such a novel use of first-person perspective that you couldn't tell it was that entirely because it zooms in on the guy's face multiple times so I guess C*sh is bending forward into his gaze for some reason.
>Wow… a person who is an individual I can't believe itA person who had a job and didn't like their job but realized that the job was part of them and their role in society through job was a part of them even though they did not like JOB. ART MUCH?!

I saw: Scary Movie (2025): I give it 7 XLRs out of 7 XLRs.

Consensus:
Pros:
I got white girl wasted in the truest sense out of the two times I've used that phrasing outside of my head (Margarita on an empty stomach.)
It was a Scary Movie. The world probably needs it for its integrity. I always say that the last good Scary Movie was 2 but that was only because it felt like it was the last one to really feel like a remotely coherent plot (not that I didn't find some of the later ones less funny) instead of just gags but I have it on good authority to reassess 4 (and maybe 3? Probably not 5 though) on its comedic merits since it's directed by Zucker of spoof legend. I always thought Scary Movie was kind of ahead of the curve because the premise seemed like it was beyond a spoof, that, it, as a reaction to Scream, realized that the horror genre was well and truly dried up and any commentary past Scream would be pointless, beating a dead horse because the genre isn't really going anywhere, especially not anywhere interesting.
Smurf the Scream sequels. What was the next best thing? You're Next, probably, I don't know, that was more just a subversionrino. It just spawned derivative quasi-horror thrillers that this movie parodies for a hot minute. Anyway, I'm not looking shit up. That's just how I felt.
I like watching these movies (as well as the much worse Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer movies) because it's entertaining to sort of isolate the jokes in your head and make them funny or imagine a world where they'd be funny or workshop them or whatever. I'm just saying they get the creative juices flowing and in that weird way, they're entertaining and they still maintain a "levity", a "humor" that should be cherished.
Now that out of the way, I thought this movie would be slightly more coherent in terms of a plot (which it wasn't) since they had plenty of Screams and new horror tropes to work with. This isn't really a quantitative assessment of pedigree, it's all just qualitative. You shouldn't expect anything else from a review of this kind of movie and people are stupid for trying to give you that. You can tell the movie was sort of slap-dashed together because of how topical some of the references are so the movie really is a messy piece of shit. But. Who cares.
I guess there's some small details that make it more coherent on rewatch (it is, after all, a cerebral experience) and the ending twist was a good one, I think it's the only one in the series with a funny twist like the first. I guess there's a whole metanarrative to the movie that makes some of the more self-indulgently unfunny bits "understandable" but I'll save that angle for some insufferable YouTube essayist.

I heard the laughter of others from behind me. It was joyous.
It did get one smile out of me. (It was a White Chicks reference.)
They kill off the
TRICKSTER first.
And I guess it saved the white race, in the end.
Cons:
I couldn't enjoy the intro because boomers didn't know how to order the popcorn and stuff. And then I SPILLED some of my precious drink on myself.

My mom didn't laugh at all. I don't think she enjoyed herself and I only saw it for her. She said she never saw the previous ones.
There were some topicalisms that didn't quite feel right. Also, sometimes there were references I didn't get and times I didn't understand the characters but granted, I was kind of tipsy. I'm going on the assumption that the latter is just a symptom of it being a quick film and that they couldn't be bothered to do new takes.
Some gags went on for too long but whatever, who gives a
smurf, it was probably padding for time, this was probably made in like, three weeks. Again, I'm not looking shit up.
I thought it had Jack Quaid but it didn't and I didn't necessarily want Jack Quaid, I just thought it had them.
It post-initial-credits (what the
smurf do people call these properly?) ends on a pretty limp parody of one (1) horror movie. I'd imagine there would be more but they were cut for time. And then there's a credits credits scene where it's parodying a movie I didn't recognize which I guess was kind of funny but uh, it was like a continuation of a single scene from the movie that was completely irrelevant to everything and it doesn't really end on some big, absurd note, it's just kind of more of the movie and it sort of peters out.
None of this shit matters though, just get tickets and get high before seeing it.
No female toilet humor though,
smurf you, what am I paying you coons for, no, the little girl doesn't count. Argh, I'm racist again.

All three modes are interchangeable and will show up in every way the actual text is distributed- that is to say, it takes the form of all narration, intertextual elements, and characters, there is no real contrast. The style is then, the contrast itself. What's deserving of what writing style? Who knows? That's the fun mystery you get to not solve when enduring this kind of shit.

>>24150>Not necessarily, but it does mean that Hu¢¢ie would give them more thought than othersYes, and their excessive focus creates some of the worst shit in the comic. Other characters (the overlap here is Terezi) die at the altar to prop up their wangst.
>have a better idea of what he was writingHe did not. As I've gone over, Dave's "thing" changes and the entire "exploration" of his character lacks proper resolution. Vriska is much the same. Neither are really coherent because Hu¢¢ie changes his mind on everything, according to audience reception. Read Vriska's introduction and try to relate it to the "hero" thing that becomes her entire shtick later on, there's not a hint of it. She's just a crazy
mewl that likes to LARP. Why isn't the hero complex mentioned in her introduction? Also, where's "muh spidermom"- shouldn't that deserve a mention too? (Let's give a special nod to the extremely relevant doomsday devices she has shown in her proper introduction) These are an "emergent" properties of the character (meaning Hu¢¢ie made it up because "she steals the spotlight durrhurrhurr" and people argued over her) that's not really explainable from reading the text proper (it's not like she personally changed- again, Hivebent is a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure the Vriska drama is implied to be only days before SGrub, it sure seems like it since Nepeta didn't even know Aradia died.) Are Vriska and Dave deep?
Smurf no. They're incoherent and the comic blatantly and directly asks every question there is about them to give them nuance again and again and again- and there weren't many to begin with.
You could argue that most Woodstock characters are deep because of motifs or foreshadowing but that doesn't matter because none of the shit about them is in the actual comic. What Dave and Vriska have is screen-time, that's it. You unironically fell for self-indulgent yarnball because he wrote more words. ("Gee, I sure do feel bad for killing Tavros even though *rings a little bell*, let me remind you that it's perfectly normal in my culture since this is a very natural thing to say and definitely not Hu¢¢ie herding the moronic audience to specific talking points so they can argue about Vriska more.")
Dave and Vriska have more clear character conflicts with actual plot relevance than basically every other character (which is not saying much.) But this means absolutely nothing when it comes at the expense of other characters and the story as a whole, it never truly explore the characters (Vriska just gets more bullet points about her to add to some hackney conception of "moral ambiguity" and Dave is just an endless back-and-forth), and has no real resolution. If he had a "better idea of what he was writing", shit wouldn't have changed so much and there would have been some definitive (character, not story) arc instead of "Will-I-Won't-I" and then an answer (which is the retcon.) Vriska's story is only really comprised of her killing Tavros and getting killed by Terezi so she can't lead Bec Noir to them- that's all fine if that was the end of the character and is a solid story arc. All of the other time spent with her is ultimately pointless and some of the details are there just to create fandom murmurings; she's a waste of time,
smurf the Mindfang journal, holy shit. I'll give some a little more leeway and say that her failing to groom Tavros and creating Bec can be argued to be important parts to the "story arc" but Vriska does a lot more than that! The whole Tavros grooming angle is sort of
noble in her original conception as an evil manic pixie dream girl (which eventually morphed into "plot fairy") which doesn't line up with the hero narrative clearly (you can argue, stupidly, that this is nuance but there isn't a moment spared to reconcile these "two angles" of the character. Why does she try to make others act more like her, is it insecurity that she can't be a hero because she thinks she's a bad person? That's a very generous assumption to make. It makes her one Act 6 line so much more poignant. But you know it's not. This is just a vestigial aspect of Vriska carried over to John because he thought the Scourge Sister rivalry would be interesting. Most of Woodstock's supposed nuance is that Hu¢¢ie couldn't let an idea go and it's just sort of still a thing. You can say that she's codependent and that's immediately obvious because of how desperate she is for Terezi's or even Aradia's attention. This shit is not deep or subtle. This is also, arguably, conflicting characterization since before all the hero talk, we get the impression that she wants someone to stand up to her, to be the hero to her villain as a moirail, and there are traces of this up until the retcon which is confusing. A vestigial element of the character conflicting with the new vision or some sort of legitimate layer to her character? Sure, try and argue this is nuance and not just conflicted writing. None of this is "deep characterization" by any means. Give me one detail in Woodstock and one conclusion drawn from it about Dave or Vriska that isn't immediately obvious, I'll wait), her grooming John is seemingly pointless since you'd think it'd be a thing pulling her away from the Bec thing but sure, it's a dramatic and tragic thing where there was a glimpse of hope but here comes the hubris (and it then leads to her "end" with John but of course, anything remotely good in Woodstock…) and her creating Bec steps on the toes of what's meant to be a narrative thing for Karkat, albeit retroactively.
And Dave, let me just bring up the fact that Dave and Rose basically both died because they were too prideful to let the other go and how this could have been a character beat but it is NEVER brought up again.
>>22873>Dave's initial character conflict is vanity and self-consciousness but that quickly pivots into people's expectations of him being the problem- he is merely reacting to that. Dave is fairly self-assured even by Act 5. There's a lot of talk about him and his destiny and deriving the meaning of his life, the somewhat forced motif of him confronting death. He's avoidant but principled. And then he was right to be, because anything else wasn't needed. When thinking about all of it in retrospect, it's hard to see Dave as a complete character. He changes a lot even if his "voice" stays the same. He very quickly assumes the role of an atypical power fantasy. His emotional world is given so much dramatic emphasis but he remains irresolute and there are no real consequences from it. He is THE tortured hero of the comic who never actually has to accept the responsibility of heroism (that would be Vriska, the narrative eater), he is simply virtuous but somewhat conflicted until he is completely consumed by apathy which is vindicated by the metanarrative and in-universe logic. (I think it's worth noting that the Dave situation mimics Roxy's treatment in later Act 6. Roxy didn't have flaws on her own, she just felt pressured to act a certain way by her friend group. This is how Hu¢¢ie writes characters he likes with one big, obvious exception- he strips them of their autonomy in a way that makes them sympathetic. Actually, wait, even with Vriska, he still tried to do it with "muh spidermom", “muh predestination”, and "muh culture", lmao.)
It should also be noted that Dave and Vriska have some of the most insufferable logs in the comic. No, I never found Dave particularly funny outside of SBaHJ (which exists independent of him) and Vriska's slightly amusing unabashed cruelty is quickly suffocated by the character's inane melodrama and ruins everything in retrospect.
There are the best embodiment of the comic's flaws because they embody the worst of its character writing BECAUSE they get so much focus. Dave is passivity, Vriska is arbitrary PLOT SHIT for the sake of PLOT (oooh, new retroactively canon thing!) They also show a complete inability to write compelling, deep, or even convincing characters despite all the WORDS, WORDS, WORDS. I'm aware of the irony because this is rambling and I don't really editorialize these.

It's hard to suggest counter-examples because I legitimately hate the comic and everyone and everything gets worse as it goes on. But John and Rose have subtle nuances to them early on whereas Dave is immediately beating you over the head with everything and he's OH-SO-IMPORTANT.
In my mind, there's a huge power gap between them and then Dirk who is above Dave who is above
GREEN who is above Jake who is above Jane. It's kind of weird to give cancer fourth place because really, technically, he should be in last but I'm only really considering them at their best because it's Woodstock. Dave, at his peak, was below John and Rose. And then Dave became a complete circlejerk, John became an autistic sociopath, Rose became an irredeemable moron and so on.

No.24349
Wealth is the real "opium of the masses." No matter how shitty their childhood is, somehow these types always find the resolve to spew their "art" out onto the world. And I think it's because they're rich. They're rich and don't have to work and can buy things and meet anyone and so they feel emboldened to do anything with themselves. Forget psychiatry, self-care, whatever, they're all still probably miserable
smurfs. And yet they make things and these things get praised by people just like them. They don't even have to be rich for the same logic to appear; if you have enough money, you get these experiences and outlets that build up this sense of artistic integrity in your head. If you're miserable and you somehow don't retreat into yourself, feel unworthy for whatever reason, you'll pump out art. The tortured artist is far more common than the tortured non-artist and the artist is, ironically, probably a lot less meaningfully introspective. Art is a material thing in a material world. Culture is social capital. Nobody is free from this miasma of unaccountability. Cultural institutions, that have and will probably always form, create networks of criticism that only lead to abstracted forms of nepotism- commonly, the infantile identification of the self in the art, art which is largely nebulously satirical in the way that only critical theory can be. Anachronistic, post-modern, post-ironic, highly referential, etc, etc, whatever. And it just goes on and on and on. This could have been an AVOHK2 post. Whatever.

There is some funny stuff buried deep in it and some clever ideas- which are really just extensions of being funny. Though, another one of the problems with "this kind of thing" that I've slapped so many labels onto is that when it's not deliberately nonsensical, it is as unsubtle and blunt as
smurfing possible. This unfortunately makes wading through all the "leftisms" (which I guess is broader than hipsterisms though not as apropos because hypothetically,

Also, having even a remote idea about the creator's politics makes you sort of flinch at the references and the messaging; see an obscure anarchocommunist quote? It was probably put there in post-ironic earnestness. Once you get an idea of the creator, the messaging becomes less surreal and more heavy-handed. I have a negative opinion of 2 anyway, because I "know of" the parts I can't get to and it sowed the seeds for the franchise's rape. Tim Cain is probably the most level head when it comes to "lightning in a bottle and then more the franchise" (

) The Enclave is an annoying and stupid antagonistic force (that didn't really get the right treatment in canon, not even in New Vegas) compared to The Unity, there's a lot of dumb, goofy shit that doesn't fit the tone of the series, and a fair chunk of the worldbuilding is shoddy (monsters in a cargo hold like it's a D&D dungeon because?!?!??!?); the initial premise undermines the original's relatively subtle dramatic irony.

They're more acceptable because they did it when it was politically relevant (or they had to make it about him because it's a Prequel and he was apparently always Nixon) Dick Richardson is retarded because it was 1998 and the coding doesn't really mean much. The doll is also irritating and makes me question the timeline. Groening is the most egregious because: 1989 and Futurama is: 1999. Slightly redeemed because at least Futurama Nixon is funny because Futurama is funny and the anachronism is deliberately absurd.

Wouldn't all the troll logs be so much better if you had a short exchange between the Kids going "Oh, hey, another weird troll just messaged me" or just shooting the shit on the side? It really wouldn't have required that much effort but it'd make the world feel so alive and like the characters were still smurfing friends with each other over the courses of the months (in real life) or pages. No, I don't really think this is more of a live reader problem than an archival one. You still feel like the Kids' friendship gets thrown aside for a bunch of yarnball. Almost every troll conversation feels obligatory, Hu¢¢ie doesn't really establish relationships unless they're necessary to the plot , some are necessary to the plot and STILL not introduced properly (Kanaya, Tavros, and Equius) "Yeah, well, maybe the trolls weren't really a complete friend group" is the cope but the real answer is that we just don't know. Equius and Feferi- what would their relationship be like, etc, etc. I feel like I made a list of these duos.
So much of Act 5 is drowned in plot- sidelogs, presumably, should be easier to write and add to the reader experience. But he didn't do them. Because he was high off his own fumes and didn't know what he was doing, fully.
