There's a bonus boss after the ending of Tekken 7 where you play as Devil Kazuya and you have to fight Shin Akuma who may be the hardest Tekken boss ever made. Granted, that's not exactly a high bar considering that Jinpachi was the only other character with busted moves whereas the other big bosses are just big guys that are vulnerable to any attack that abuses their large size. That's why Tavros doesn't really fit him in those images. But he's not really John either. In truth, no one in the Woodstock is emotionally complex enough to properly slot into the role of Shinji. Yeah, we had the bits about Poland which were lies and lies by omission but Nazi Germany is portrayed as an independent movement of VLD GODs instead of a reactionary position. (This reminds me of an exchange I had with a home-educator when I was being a truant. She was black. She asked part of why I thought the maps showed Europe as bigger than Africa. I guessed that Europe had more countries than Africa. But she said that was wrong and she was right. Africa has about 10 more countries than Europe. But let's compare the
smurfing sizes of each continent when you think about those 10 countries. The point I was trying to make still rings true. You lose more readability on Europe when you scale things accurately than you do if you use the map with the warped proportions. This was never imperialism or white supremacism. European countries are just too small compared to the continents with BRAZIL and ALGERIA. I don't even get the argument, like, we're supposed to think South America and Africa are small so they're irrelevant? If anything knowing how
smurfing big they are, and how little they contribute to the worldstage per capita is more damaging. They are big and suffering and so we need to give them even more help? I don't get the narrative.)

I wonder if it's the defensive capabilities of her flat chest or if it's just more amusing that she's used as a punching bag. In D5, the only guest character with a higher starting defense aptitude is Almaz from Disgaea 3

A guy can put his heart and soul into a roguelike but that doesn't feefee as authentic as all the cartoon animals holding hands as the sun rises.
I don't know, just think of all the one man projects in gaming (or really, anything closely approaching it since Undertale got lots of doses of little help in almost every area.)There are games that are very well-respected and beloved that had a very strong creative vision from one person that aren't thought of as auteur work or labors of love, just nebulous "art." Everyone praises Ico but nobody thinks of it as "Fumito Ueda's game." Can you think of any game that's praised as an example of auteurship or a labor of love to the degree of Undertale? Skullgirls is somewhere around here, not very high up but it's there. The closest thing I can think of is Kojima games who is of course, Kojima and definitely not deserving of as much credit as his cult of personality gives him because, from what I know, many of the things that made Metal Gear Solid(s and such) good had very little to do with him and let's not start with the tangent about his influences. So it's like Fobby, Kojima, maybe David Cage if you're some kind of retarded European boomer or something. Kind of annoying, isn't it? I don't know where I'm going with this. Maybe Yoshinori Kitase? But the auteur problem sticks out even among them. I can think of a lot more examples of those, with time. Mileage may vary on how much they're ESSENTIALLY viewed as auteurs (independent of the fact of whether they are one or not, eeeeeh, some people are weird about this especially based on the genre where writing or game design/game scenario are disproportionately important so their creative contribution makes it seem like "their game." Though this is paradoxically not something brought up in the auteur discussion or even the importance of a single creative vision in games, people only treat "their games" as reasons to like the specific guy- I hope you know what I'm getting at here.) whereas Kojima and Fobby aren't really disputed.
Goichi Suda is another auteur of note. I should bite my tongue for forgetting him. But he's mostly viewed as a novelty. Maybe SWERY.
>>36525You failed to mention Suda despite (YOU) being (YOU) and instead took the opportunity to shit on Undertale.

>>36529And also, in general, the dreaded Toonami adult is willing to say that Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7 have good writing but they wouldn't say "Yoshinori Kitase is a good writer" for whatever reason. Maybe some level of detachment on their end, sanctifying nostalgia in a fake gobbledygook mystery.
But the tendency to overlook names is there, in general, and it's partially understandable because videogames tend to be huge productions that are increasingly bloating themselves beyond reasonable proportions (which muddles the water for game design things, not so much writing) but this is also the digital age and you can look shit up. Hollywood movies have a million SFX workers but people are still attracted by names of directors and writers so game designers and videogame writers being comparatively overlooked is somewhat baffling. People are attracted by them in vidya but the point still stands that many people can't name the writers and/or game designers of games they and everyone else say have the best writing and/or game design. I should have had this in the previous post, it wasn't a new thought like that one, I kind of just forgot to put it in.

>Cliffy B!Yeah, sure, John Carmack too, but that's more of a "Their games" thing which only subjectively morphs into the idea of an auteur in some conversations. When we think of games, we think of the games and don't associate many names. Slight tangent about Woodstock because it inspired the thought I had. You would think, in Woodstock, that the Ancestors would be some commentary about a significantly advanced technological culture with Internet making cults of personality easy to develop around serendipitous figures because of how well-documented everything is. The way Woodstock actually does it makes Alternia feel really boring and small because it's just a
smurfing book that yes, while plausible that Vriska would find it in her spree of pillaging, is just a direct source (and it's kind of improbable that she'd find it unless you want to introduce WEIRD PLOT SHIT.) We don't really know if the other trolls know about their Ancestors from her or from some other means. We know Terezi knows about her Ancestor but does Equius? It would make sense, it makes his character deeper and more profound but this is just kind of ambiguous. Did Vriska tell Equius his Ancestor didn't follow his duties? That uh, sounds like a far more interesting exchange than most of the existing ones in the comic. It feels like a videogame in a really bad and dumb and definitely not intentional way, it's like some shitty Croatian RPG. It's just weird that it was written this way because one of the things Woodstock is unmistakably and self-purportedly about is "the Internet" vaguely in third place behind "videogames" and at the top, "growing up."
Anyway, the real point that I'm going to hurt your eyes with so you read it is that I was imagining the kind of thing Ancestors should have been. I thought of a world where I died doing nothing but, for no particular reason, kids found my old YouTube video and posting history and decided to base their entire personalities on me. That's the kind of weird, absurd shit we could imagine happening if the Internet continues to expand and humanity continues to persist indefinitely. That's kind of something Woodstock should have commented on. But, just imagine, long after we're dead, scholars debating Megidochan because its archive of an archive of an archive got archived.

>>36521>I don't want to get into how cynical or emotionally manipulative Undertale might beI do!
The entire purpose of Chapter 1 of Undertale was to trick you into killing Toriel and then have Flowey make you feel bad about it.
It does this in three ways.
First, it subtly implies that Toriel is secretly evil. The player gets a glimpse of Asgore's silhouette in the trailer and Toriel is clearly the same species as him (who at this point we know to be the villain of the game), and the pile of kids' shoes could be interpreted as a sign of Toriel being a serial child killer. But no, it turns out she's just an overprotective mother type who genuinely cares for you.
Then, even if you ARE trying to spare Toriel, it gives you a method (lowering the enemy's HP) which works fine on other enemies, but when you try to do it on Toriel, WHOOPS your damage dealt suddenly shot way up without any warning and you killed her. This comes completely out of nowhere.
Finally, the actual method to avoid killing her is… choosing the Spare option 23 times in a row even when it has no apparent effect. No normal person on a blind playthrough would reasonably figure this out.
And then Flowey comes along and says you're bad. And then even if you reload and DO figure out how to spare her, Flowey still says you're bad.
Now, it's not as complete horseshit as, say, Spec Ops the Line. It's just MOSTLY horseshit since you technically have a way to avoid it. But let's face it, most blind players are gonna fall for Tony's Toriel trap, and you can tell which ones they are, since even years later in Deltarune they're traumatized by it, to the point of having a pathological fear of ever pressing the Attack button, even when it would be a better choice (like against Queen's acid shield). They're in the chat of every streamer, screaming at them to stop attacking.
You could even call it PTSD. Post-Toriel-Slaying Disorder.

The nu-trilogy is an incredibly bad example because Kylo Ren is treated overwhelmingly sympathetically, especially past the first movie. This is likely because of lady boners but the point stands that whatever gay and retarded politics the First Order were spurred by, they didn't care to make Kylo Ren just an alt-right punching bag. And the sequels are way more about Kylo Ren specifically than anything about the politics of the First Order.

>>>36838>Legends and/or Clone Wars shows shit, nigga.>>36843>Leia is a perfectly fine character… in A New Hope. Grevious is basically the exact opposite. <
>He's an incredibly vengeful and prideful coward. He's just a good villain. Leia, despite her prominence in the movies, has the personality of a competent side character.>>36847>Lucas knows rule-of-cool, it was no accident.<
And the sequels are way more about Kylo Ren specifically than anything about the politics of the First Order.>>36859>This is barely about Lucas. I don't really think anyone cares about it specifically being a good tale of political intrigue, Star Wars is mostly a character-based thing. Again, that's what people latch onto and that's the affect of the fandom. Ah, whatever. No.36933
>>36811>Samejoke but just less subtleWhy. The only justification is if she's teaching kids how to humor but we all know it's not that.

>>36926Not disagreeing. My point was that a lot of Star Whores fans seem unaware the franchise is *mostly* low-brow Rule-of-Cool. There's nothing puzzling about Grievous ranking higher than Leia in some popularity poll, and acting as if that were an intellectual (and moral) failure when all mainline SW characters are incredibly simple and often limited to fulfilling basic archetypes is the definition of pretentiousness.
