But also, wait, look at this.

It might have generated something sticker worthy completely incidentally.

Also, according to G. Pete, there really is no good reason why they're greasers because "punks" were in the game and got cut and the rationale was "well theyre kind of too close to bullies and townies" which greasers are kind of even closer to.

I think the reason greasers were kept while punks got cut is that Rockstar was doing an ironic funny, secondly, and primarily to mask some of the more transgressive content with absurdism because "how can you take x seriously when greasers are randomly still a thing" because I think a version where "greasers" were "punks" instead would be taken exponentially more seriously such that its reputation would be completely different. People kind of overlook how dark a lot of the comedy in Bully is and just view it as this wacky game where you give people swirlies and take annoying bitches on dates.

So, yeah, that's probably the reason. Not a great one but it is what is. :batter:

Or Portal's fairly dry and sparse black humor compared to 2's… you know.

Or the history of Team Fortress from the mod all the way to the current state of 2. (And all those Meet Your Match changes made for competitive dregs that pissed me off. :nerves:)

It really makes you wonder what they truly value as a company; if they ever really saw a purpose to the past ways of doing things or if they just always wanted a springboard for "bigger and better things" and are generally just kind of aimless.

Yes, and they lack character and aren't funny because of that. The only sprite I think is inherently funny is John's because he looks like such a dweebus but maybe that's because I knew John and found him very charming before Jr. ruined his character.

Gamzee and Eridan are vaguely amusing when you consider their personalities? IDK.

But you've heard this before. We should have been getting The Felt instead of sprite mode. Granted them being literal game sprites is intentional and requires them to be somewhat homogeneous so we could just change the head shapes and have so much more character. But I digress.

I think Hu¢¢ie may have considered, just for a second, making them fully colored 8bit sprites like Ertbound but then thought to himself "Vgh, everyone does that" and so he settled on the pawn look instead because it matched his long-running joke about arms. (Which itself is kind of a redflag for a cartoonist if they just don't draw X because they don't know how to make it look good.) Arm posing in default sprites could have also gone a long way in expressing character (think of Jerk City); Hell, the Guardians already do that.

Act 2 is the peak of the comic before Jr's restlessness kicks in. Not saying that there aren't things I like in Act 3 or 4 (and very begrudgingly, 5 and very tentatively, Act 6) but Act 2 is definitely not the "signs of things to come" Act. That's Act 3. Act 2 is the height of kids and fun before Jr. got completely bored of the premise and the limits that he ostensibly imposed on himself.

Genning stuff is fun because people don't deserve to live off "Uh…. draw boobs", there's sometimes deranged shit people come up with that no artist would touch and, it can help real artists brainstorm shit. All of this babbling is myopic and infantile, it's mind-numbing. Slop existed before, outsourcing that was basically slavery existed before, soulless art existed before, it's just a boogeyman.

I agreed with that part, I feel the same way. I think because there's no creative vision behind AI art and you can tell it's just generic anime girl in generic pose, so it doesn't convey much feeling. I don't think it's impossible in theory for generative AI to do everything a human artist does, but there are some aspects of art which are impossible to represent with text, so AI can't generate them. If I couldn't distinguish AI art at a glance I wouldn't care that much, but I usually can (even now that it's a lot more technically skilled), which suggests something is still missing from AI art.

That said I do follow a couple of AI art accounts and I think they can be decent if you make a unique/consistent style and curate discerningly enough.

Also, I wonder if the writing of Undertale was a lot like Homestark where it's basically a friend circlejerk writers' room. It seems plausible given how much just how many friends he got to do random shit for him. This kind of thing doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things- most things are written this way. But it does detract from the mystique of WIDEWALLY ONE GUY MADE THIS which still plagues Tundra Eel discussion to this day and is part of why it's circlejerked so hard. FROM THE DESK OF
ROSE LALONDE
:prose:

The French Revolution was a great tragedy, both in how the failure of the old order brought it about and how the evils of egalite were inflicted upon the ancient and noble French.

It is also a tragedy in that Talleyrand's quip about the old order having "Learned nothing and forgotten nothing" is true of us as well.

The lesson of the French Revolution is that egalite is evil, but it can only be staved off in favor of hierarchy if a state of true noblesse oblige exists. Without that, if the moneyed elite is merely a collection of yapping oligarchs, eventually their exactions lead to the tragedy inflicted upon France by spiteful mutants like Marat.

Yet that lesson hasn't been learned. We have not forgotten the guillotine, yet neither have we learned the lesson of how to avoid it. Instead, the tech elite of today is somehow even more grasping and unvirtuous than the robber barons. At least Carnegie and Rockefeller built libraries and churches, and at least the French nobility served in the military. Cretins like Gates can point to no such noble deeds, only a pile of money and the bureaucratic pusher of liberalism called "philanthropy." - RL

It wasn't a very effective one, initially. Like, "Oh, no, what are the racist libertarians going to do" like the U.S government would give a shit about that past the militia craze of the mid-late 90s. (I miss old /pol/)

It did become a honeypot (for Stormdregs which the government always has a "good" reason to care about due to Neo Nazi crime syndicates. "But that's not the real reason.") and a good place for astroturfing after a certain someone came into the picture however.

There's also TF2 Gold Rush. TF2 Classified just released today.

Upcoming, TF2: Rebalanced and TF2: Legacy.

I think this is how the game dies. People just start doing new versions of the game instead of just using servers because ??? to serve their either asinine, directionless (TF2 Classic) or completely counterintuitive visions of what the game should be (DUDE WHAT IF TF2 PLAYED LIKE EVERY ARENA SHOOTER CLONE EVER *cough* OpenTF *cough*)

I like a lot of HiGPS's ideas and I think they got utilized in at least one of them but I'd prefer to just play on a TF2 server?

Those are casual games with low time investments and (more) transferable skills. I could go on but they obviously aren't the same. :proper:

Also, keep in mind that this is a Source game on Steam so they know somebody could just make a casual Workship mod for it and that would be fine but for some reason they went and proactively made an official version which means they either don't have faith in the community to make one for whatever reason (it dead) or have some other nebulous, insecure reason for this (immediately attracting a more casual playerbase, tracking metrics, IDFK.)

The success behind mobas is that they are casual as shit but convince casuals they are hardcore. You are literally playing a casualized RTS. (genre that died because it was too hard and scared casuals). Same exact thing happened with Quake and CS. >Which is why one has millions of casual players
They're Asian. This is also more applicable with League than DoTA 2. The latter of which is less popular and more HARDCORE.
>the other repels all casuals like its a bad juju
It's more like they don't have a dedicated playerbase because they're all (made to be) interchangeable. Do you know how many arena shooter clones I've seen pop up and die? They wouldn't be getting bursts of activity if this was true. They wouldn't even be made. There's a market but it's not a strong one; it's not as strong for a reason. Do you think gamers (even the older ones, retained from previous generations) have just been casualized? :abdl:

That's a really reductive world view.
>>4978
>The success behind mobas is that they are casual as shit but convince casuals they are hardcore.
Yes but no. Specifically League. MOBAs have a lot of momentum of existing playerbases (that, in part, carried over from DoTA. Nobody made an arena shooter revival soon enough to scoop up the player base so it's all just scattershot bullshit like Melee clones or Midair for Tribes) which doesn't transfer over to a "pick-up-and-play" game where you don't have a long win-loss con and just incrementally get better.

League is propped up partially due to there being a dedicated girl role and girl champions which effectively doubles its playerbase of "guy and his girlfriend." It's girlproof. :ham:
>genre that died because it was too hard and scared casuals
Sure, objectively true, but it still should have a niche in the market because Koreans are still playing SC2. The fact that nobody's tried to innovate in that market reveals another, third truth that is beyond just casual or competitive.
>Same exact thing happened with Quake and CS
I'd say these are just different.

You are literally being the boomer shooter meme and calling everything you liked hardcore and everything else is casual. It's SILLY.
>>4979
