>>19500You don't have to express your most vulnerable emotions in every thing you work on. You can work up to being comfortable with that, should you choose to express it in the first place, which is not necessary.
Working/creating does not make you lose your standards. Maybe you're afraid of witnessing the gap between your current ability to execute and your lofty aspirations, but there is no real danger. Producing something and seeing that it can be improved does not result in your standards degrading.
>if my standards get in the way of my capabilities, I just have to be better, otherwise I'm starting with a huge handicap, and you don't know pathetic it makes you feel, how small it makes you feel.Lots of people know this feeling, myself included. I realize it's difficult. But anyway, as should be obvious to you, the largest component of "capability" will not improve without
doing. Refusing to ever attempt
doing, even privately with no real stakes, is effectively guaranteeing you will never approach your standards.
The way out is to try, to do, to make. Your inability to produce what you aspire to does not taint the purity of your standards or vision. The inability was there before you even tried.
You will feel better if you have something to work towards.

>"No, but still"Okay, but it feels more frequent and centralized. To "horror."
Another pattern in A24 world is that we're getting lots of new types of "horror" movies different from the old "horror" of a guy going around and stabbing people. They're often black comedies too but are rarely actually funny because the people that make them don't know how to make jokes, they just know to make sarcastic quips and have characters be stupid to allow the idiot plots to work. They're "horror" because they're violent which is an easy way to entertain an audience (and the creators probably enjoy that too) and a lot of them fall into heavy-handed social commentary with a "NOT THAT I CONDONE ALL THESE BAD PEOPLE BEING MURDERED" implicitly understood or something along those lines.
Like, who the
smurf are these guys, I understand Freddy Vs. Jason being handed off to literally whos but the reboot? Why the
smurf do they have a bunch of weird, unfinished projects under their belt? Are they Jewish? How old are they? They seem old as
smurf and yet they're still making shit like this? All these questions and more. Don't really matter. What I said is still true and it's annoying.
All these things are so "unique" but ultimately samey. Things are afraid of being stupid. It's all post-irony shit. I blame: millennials.

This is mostly a League thing but I'm sure it applies to more things. I'm really sick of "genre DEI" in lowbrow shit. Things used to be like "Uh, it's a high-fantasy setting but there's also a robot because that's cool" but then there comes the attempts to make it SRS by adding lore to all the stock archetypes and then we enter into a phase where there's diversity shiet and they never explain where the black people come from or why someone is speaking Spanish in a fantasy setting even though almost everything else is over-explained in the setting. And we still have the obligatory weeaboo shit (samurai, ninja, monks, etc) plastered everywhere of course. All of this is in the name of higher fantasy but it's always just superficial "Mi familia, la comida y la música" and never anything substantial. Sure, getting influence from Polynesian Gods would be cool but it's more than just a Godstick design and an accent and whatever.
It's all just Wikipedia xenophilia but justified with corporate talk and some allusion to creating some greater fantasy mythos when it's just like all the anachronistic and generic Nordicisms and Orientalisms of the past. It's just so dumb and I say this as someone who is like "Yeah, Greeks and Nords are played out, it'd be nice to seem some alternative fantasy religious inspirations" and then you see them and it's the same exact shit. All of the African fantasy shit I've perused looks completely limp and interchangeable. Perennialism is such cancer that it affects people even when they're ostensibly working against it. Essentialism is a powerful force but apparently not enough to make people abstractly define different cultures beyond "WE WUZ ABOUT BLOOD 'N SOIL 'N SHIET" I'm complaining about two slightly different phenomena here. Whatever.

I assume it's only because he saw one and not the other. I guess I'm at the point where I think it'd be funny to see him parody They Live because it makes him do the exact same shit again for like the fifth time (and they tended to be pretty long segments too.) That's kind of the only thing entertaining about Sinfest is seeing an old "favorite" returning after he's run out of steam spinning his wheels with some other tired yarnball. No.19753
>>19740>>19741The game SEEMINGLY has a great premise but it's filled with all the most insufferable "indie horror" isms possible. I'm not sure on the specificities of the lore because I didn't outright look it up but I'm pretty sure the entire situation is ultimately "ambiguous with few concrete rules" (which is terrible.) The platitude about horror being less scary when you explain what's happening rings hollow. This is largely a thing people say that is just outright wrong (though it is ironically true for cosmic horror which the same people tend to lap up from a trough even though it's antithetical to what people say is the core affect of cosmic horror. Explaining an Old God's motivation just makes them a supervillain.) There is no discernible gap in horror between knowing zombies die when they're shot in the head as opposed to it just being heavily implied. There is only the possibility for yarnball with the latter.
You can't blame me for not getting invested, I was hit in the face by so much obnoxious shit. All the down-to-Earth stuff is ruined by the joke characters and half-baked sideplots and purple prose…
>apparently it was a game jam game finished in under a year. This is surprising and impressive but it makes all the irritating things more irritating because you'd expect stricter editoralization on something made with a hard and tight deadline.
I'm so sick of, I don't know what to call it, "intrigue bait." Nothing can ever be this or that, it always has to have some complete tangent that undermines the greater premise. Nobody can ever focus on one thing- there must always be some stupid little vestigial garnish for interpretation or whatever the
smurf. I'm ringing the "millennial" bell again. Though it does also seem to trickle down to (((us))) given the Roblox (games) and Fortnite lore (which is not zoomer-
noble like probably most of the Roblox games are but its main demographic is zoomers and
aoomers) I know.

I want to say millennials are a generation ruined by LOST and make up the majority of Mystery Box addicts (though there is one particular xoomer infamous for being ruined by LOST:

) I think Gen-X is more likely to actually commit to pure surrealism or absurdism without feeling the need to ground it in post-irony or transparent "This is an ambiguity of the story" trappings. That's at least one (1) good thing about them.
>The music is by cboyardeeThis I can believe and more easily hear because I thought the music was pretty good and it sounded distinct (distinctly him.) Look Outside's music felt a lot more generic, maybe the timelines of the game overlapped and he felt more inspired by one or just put in more effort, I don't know.
Whenever I think of these really, rather specific trends that I hate, I try to think of a way in which I can parody them but they might be beyond parody because again, there's that reflexive post-irony and (like that other trend I described hating) a lot of the games lean into black comedy too. Even if I did parody it, I don't think people would understand that it's a parody of indie horror as a incongruous whole, and not just say, cosmic horror, mascot horror, or analog horror. This is one area where "MoM style Greivance" is proving useful but what I'm coming up with (we can give it the working title of "Cool Bike Vids") is, like I said, probably indistinguishable from the thing it's supposed to be making fun of- no, it's not just a comedic indie horror game, it's trying to make fun of indie horror games. The obvious silver bullet would be to include a fourth-wall breaking element about the writing process itself but that's hack shit and you know it.

The gimmick would be that it's a skate park that a bunch of kids keep dying on due to XTREEEEEEEEME SPORTZ yet they keep advertising it to kids with LE MASCOTS. One of the mascots looks like a butthole and is an ebin old God. You've got 1) The resentful ghosts of children who died 2) Evil scary mascots 3) Old God something something. I'd imagine the game starts with you finding 90s videotapes in your PSX low-poly house and putting them into your 90s camcorder in order to play the sequences (it will be subtly revealed that the MC is literally jerking off to the nostalgia subtly, first by exiting with him on the toilet and then it eventually escalating to him being on a sofa with his pants down and his hand in his underwear.) I guess it escalates into a "find my 7 pages" thing where you're transported to the new skate park (they built a skate park ontop of a skate park- I imagine you falling through concrete onto the old one for a nonsense reveal.)
I guess I should incorporate a FAST AND LOUD Puppet Combo sequence into it somewhere. I need to hit all the bases or else it won't read.
If anyone knows indie horror slop remotely as well as me, please give me ideas. I haven't written out all the plot yarnball and I have to think harder about that all but maybe someone could point me along. People would finally feel comfortable with the "outs" that are "These are jokes, this is my attempt at writing a narrative, and this is what I want to express." No pointless ambiguity, no shit written to stir the pot, no metanarrative "praxis", no "speculation bait", no irony poisoning, no changing your mind to own the fans, no pandering, again, etc, etc, etc,
Though realistically, at best, even if we do identify the Great Satan, what we'll get is probably going to be more of the same with a happier, more optimistic veneer. >>20291It kind of makes me think of 2000s shooter man which is very funny but I still ultimately prefer it to "OH GOOLY GEE WIZ" nerd voice (thank you for your unique take, Fobby.) John should be somewhat snarky and have a kind of Rodney Dangerfield thing going on. But nobody knows how to do John, much less early John. He liked to make jokes, gags, and pranks, he liked comedy as an art (his alternate self was even a stand-up performer), he's not just a generic nerd stand-in. More importantly, John WAS essentially the straight man who made wisecracks, Dave and Rose are both supposed to come off as sort of overbearing (and they do, but nu-fandom doesn't seem to recognize that because terminally online autists just reads the logs at face-value.)

And yes, I know it's kind of weird to judge the opinion of something I've argued is nebulous and meaningless but there is definitely a "less wrong" interpretation which the comic makes excruciatingly clear by drawing parallels (and others are just process of elimination.)
Light and Void.
Hope and Rage.
Time and Space.
These are made glaringly apparent.
Heart and Mind.
Life and Doom.
These are just intuitive. They are so much more irrelevant than the previous 6 (six) so interpreting them is kind of waste of time.
And then you're left with Blood and Breath so there you go. (Blood is irrelevant but Breath isn't.)
It's just baffling for anyone who puts even the smallest amount of thought into this to not come to these conclusions.

>>20484Femdom Rose is one of the lowest of the low tier Woodstock femdom picks, probably as low as you can get besides "literally what why" picks like Nepeta femdom. She was BUILT for BREAKING. (We can argue that even the "gold standard" like Vriska is even written this way but let's put that aside. I remember one of those "why I like Woodstock" writings where they were talking about how Hu¢¢ie isn't afraid to write "strong female characters with vulnerabilities" when it really reads like Huss writing female characters in a way that makes them sexually flexible for domination or submission because he is a pervert. Some of this bleeds into how Hu¢¢ie writes conversations in general and how that's flawed. There is always someone who is basically carrying the conversation and someone who is just passively responding and this gets worse and worse as the comic goes on, I want to say Equius was a self-aware response to both of these things but the latter half of that- the commentary on character writing, not the pervert stuff- might be giving Hu¢¢ie too much credit. )
Even Hu¢¢ie couldn't resist the urge to make her
smurf up and fall apart though he clearly wrote it out of spite and didn't give her any dignity, or sympathy, or proper resolution or…

>>20504>when it really reads like Huss writing female characters in a way that makes them sexually flexible for domination or submission because he is a pervert. This is a big claim and requires a lot from the comic to justify it until you realize "strong female characters" is mostly just comprised of Vriska and kismesissitude (Snowman) which are "acts dominant but enjoys getting dominated" Other close examples are "nice", "strong-willed" characters that do nothing (no real vulnerability?) or confident characters that randomly have breakdowns (Terezi, Rose) or Meenah who doesn't really have vulnerability, she distinctly lacks it, and the one time we could have seen her be vulnerable (Aranea taking the ring for herself), she just kind of tells her to
smurf off and doesn't care. Even the Prankster's Gambit is essentially BDSM which brings me back to the Equius thing. The Vriska waifu thing is unironically real and it's why Hu¢¢ie kept his soft spot for Neigh8ors throughout the years- Equius is a self-insert.
People say he's into femdom but that's too easy. I think he was generally fascinated by extreme sexual power dynamics and BDSM; he was a "switch" and the cluster
smurf that was the quadrants (which again, I think, partially originated from Vriska's relationship to Tavros) was just a way of organizing BDSM relationships into the setting as a limp parody of fandom shipping dynamics.
I think part of why Huss started dragging in new writers wasn't so that they could breathe more life into the project but to make it harder and less logical to try and read him from what he wrote. He hates people poking at his brain in ways he doesn't explicitly approve. He hates it so much that he's willing to call it stalking and harassment.
