Vriska's stupid fucking gimmick is stupid and makes the writer do stupid things. She kind of just exists in the space between Karkat and Terezi and leeches importance and development away from them like a parasite. Aranea's existence as "LORESPERG" would actually help differentiate Kanaya and Feferi so that Kanaya could be mom!troll and Feferi could be friend!leader instead of them being exposition bots. I guess it also takes some of the load of off Aradia of being a literal exposition bot.

>>65718I think College Dropout is pretty rough. Probably my least favorite of the three college albums. I'm tired and I'm not a raphead so the thoughts will be very empty on that.
I like some songs off The Bends but I hesitate to call it one of the Radiohead albums that I like. I reserve that only to OK Computer and Hail To The Thief which I mentally prop up because of its album art. I think Radiohead is very frustrating.
I outright refuse to listen to the Beatles. Call it dad PTSD or whatever but yeah, sure, I like some of their songs but the "hit" stuff doesn't really "hit" so I doubt I'd like their more "eclectic" (they're still a pop band) stuff would be all that great to me. I die by the Beach Boys.
I like some Modest Mouse songs quite a bit. But they normie breakout ones, I guess. Float On will forever be in car commercials. I've considered listening to their albums but frankly, I fear committing to that shit because with the type of music Modest Mouse is (it's still faggy even when I like it), it will be awkwaaard-inducing if a song is even mediocre to me so I just compartmentalize that shit away and listen to The Whale Song sometimes.
I think the Talking Heads fucking suck. My parents met at a Talking Heads concert and they fucking suck too.
Most of this stuff looks like shit I wouldn't touch with a stick and it's all very /mu/y to me.
I don't think Damaged has enough energy in it. I know you don't value aggression in your music as much as me and I doubt you value energy as much.
I have soft spots for bubblegum pop and oldies and doo-wop but I mostly like fast and harsh things. My eternal quest to find some sort of in-between has left me spurned with mathcore which is basically a genre that doesn't exist anymore and only did for like 6 years. Blackened mathcore is kind of a thing. Kind of. But I didn't like it that much when I listened to it. I still put it on my chart because of what it is. But. Whatever. I don't know.
This looks like soft music. And not "older" / "dated" soft music which is the kind I tolerate. I don't know what albums you would hypothetically recommend to me off this chart.

>I don't think Damaged has enough energy in it. I know you don't value aggression in your music as much as me and I doubt you value energy as much. this is maybe the most confusing statement to me in your post. I've only listened to my war twice, but one of the reasons I couldn't get into it so much is that it just felt limp compared to the rawness on damaged. also, one of my most frequent complaints when I'm listening to stuff in the punk and hard rock area is that they aren't aggressive or raw enough. sure, maybe if you're only looking at pure sound, few of my picks will be able to compete with the "aggressive" feeling of metal. but I feel mischaracterized by your take.
some others you MIGHT enjoy,
Biznasty on energy/sonic noisiness:
- the ging nang boyz album: loud pop punk with occasionally schizocore lyrics. dripping with pent up energy and emotion. not sure how not understanding the lyrics might impact your enjoyment tho
- black midi - schlagenheim: noise rock/post-rock album, bouncing between slow-building ambient pieces and screaming guitars. so glad I got to see these guys live.
- shiina ringo - shouso strip: loud, noisy, triumphant noise pop rock
- black dresses - noisy electro industrial, very strong NiN influence but in a generally poppy way. often raw and emotional, several of their releases fought for this spot for me. that said, they're trans and the vocals are prominent, and so even placing the album on this list feels like a futile exercise in getting torn apart by you. so maybe just don't listen
>Most of this stuff looks like shit I wouldn't touch with a stick and it's all very /mu/y to me.are you saying this because you don't recognize the album art? I've only visited /mu/ a small handful of times, many years ago.

The large part of dojin slop aren't these crafted stories that explore mature themes you couldn't find on the mass market. I'd love it if they were.
They are, first and foremost, porn. Drafted not because the author had some Vision or Point to express, but so that players can see (game/anime expy girl) getting fucked in the same handful of stock scenarios the base RPG maker tile set allows for.
So you unless you've GOT to drain your balls, there's not much of a point to playing 'em.

>>65912okay, but even a work that is relatively simple or straightforward on say, narrative or gameplay grounds, can still be a valuable masterpiece in the artistic pursual of arousal.
I'm reminded of an older wave of game critics who unknowingly worked against the medium's interest by spotlighting narrative-heavy games exclusively. for example, the uncharted games. in their pursuit for validation from the "real art connoisseurs", they reduced the art form to "it's a movie you can play!" by only focusing on aspects of the medium that could be done just as well in film.
meanwhile, the games that we might say are the "purest" expression of the art of gamemaking; that is, titles that excel in an area UNIQUE to games by having an amazingly polished gameplay loop, or masterful juice/feedback to player actions, etc, languished in the dark as mere toys, not to be looked at by serious critics.
(to be clear, this was ONE attitude to games as art that irritated me, not a universal trend or anything)
in the same way, I would push back against the idea that porn is only redeemed by narrative elements attached to it, or interesting gameplay, etc.
porn is art that is pursuing its own separate goal, arousal, and I don't think that makes it lesser, even if cultural feedback loops mean that in practice, much less "high art porn" is made than high art non-porn.
this is a restatement of the idea I expressed several threads ago about how porn is art, basically.

>>65934>porn is art that is pursuing its own separate goal, arousal, and I don't think that makes it lesserPlayed many HRPGs?
You reach "True End" precisely by keeping arousal minimal. I’m merely holding HRPGs to the virtues they preach.
That said, I do like your point and was mostly being High-Minded. There is an art to the craft of arousal itself. Take
Eris Dysnomia—the gameplay is flashy button-mashing, the story is tissue-thin, yet in accomplishing what it aims…
It’s also probably unfair to say all porn is complete poison. Change can come from the unlikeliest places. My beloved
Kubel, for instance, ended up liberalizing me on the issue of abortion (cue: cuuuuuuuuuck!).
Maybe this comes down to differing levels of sex positivity between us. Despite being a pervert, I still view that as something of a failing…
For me, FeMCs hit best when the Purity and Corruption are woven into a mutually reinforcing knot. Time spent establishing the heroine’s charm should serve the dual purpose of seeding jealous anxiety to protect her, and setting up humiliating bathos should she "fall".

>>66072>>66073>>66074agree to disagree on this point. this is a semantic point so it's kind of arbitrary to begin with, but EVERY artist exists in dialogue with their audience and the audience's expectations. by your logic, at what point does an artisan become an artist? is it just when they pass some arbitrary bound of "doing things for themselves"? I'd like to think the vast majority of ero artists are incorporating a fair amount of their own artistic sensibility into the work, not just focus-grouping to produce the safest, generalized work possible.

>>66088>by your logic, at what point does an artisan become an artist? When the work stops cathering to the audience man. No actual artist enjoys repeating the same formula, because an *actual* artist doesn't even follow a formula to begin with. Once the process(es) of refining your own formula to the perfection is complete, you really can't enjoy recreating with the same style/technique because the key driving factor for an artist is the joy of defining and refining, not the execution.
If someone is creating the samey same stuff without expanding, growing or changing, I wouldn't consider them an artist. Minus points for anyone that leeches pre-existing styles be it through tutorials or whatever else.

>>66090>because the key driving factor for an artist is the joy of defining and refining, not the execution.again, I understand the semantic distinction you're trying to make, but I personally disagree that prioritization of this particular thing is what defines an artist. again, in my view, even a groundbreaking, difficult-to-get-a-taste-for artist is probably catering to the audience in some sense, because the popular view of a medium/genre is pervasive, and influences the types of art that artists even think about creating. you cannot truly escape expectations, you're always in conversation with them.
>If someone is creating the samey same stuff without expanding, growing or changing, I wouldn't consider them an artist.again, semantic disagreement here. I don't think an artist being stagnant or settled into a tiny niche disqualifies them as an artist, personally

if someone always nitpicks me in bad faith, I'll learn to take their comments less seriously. if someone has a track record of thoughtful discussion, I'm more likely to be charitable to what otherwise might seem like bait or pointless contrarianism.
this saves me from frustration, and it also means I'm able to better tune my manner of posting to the people I'm talking to, because different styles of communication (dare I say, "rhetoric") work better for different people. and I don't even mean that in a cynical way, it's just about engaging with people in a way that fosters understanding and productive discussion.
the main reason I can see for you getting upset about this is that (ironically) it means your actions have consequences, and suddenly after you've shown your ass 50 times, people are less likely to spend lots of personal effort trying to argue with you or have a nuanced discussion

Also, honestly, Marzipan, I wouldn't want to let you down with an album trade. I've told certain people to review my albums and I hate hearing them get disappointed with them.
The only person I trust to go through my list is RoW because we strongly overlap and even he didn't like some of the stuff on there. If it was anyone else, I would have taken it personally. It's kind of easy to dismiss RoW's music tastes knowing what he listens to.

>>66257It's the "waste nothing" heroine characterization I was thinking of, where every piece of cute charm is ironically echoed later.
Take the third flashback in Kubel, where we see 11-year-old Majetano petulantly begging her uncle for a stuffed puppy. It’s a perfect gap moe scene, contrasting her bratty, manipulative side with the stricter studycel demeanor she shows off at school and in her professional life. Her flustered react creates a secret between Sero (and the player) and Majetano, offering us a fuller picture of how she behaves in different contexts.
(You), being a nice guy striving for equilibrium in his relationships, agree to keep her childish side private and to maintain equal footing.
Fast-forward to the Fallen route: 22-year-old Majetano echoes the same childish pleas "I'll cry if you don't"… but in begging for the NTR guy to J-J-JAM IT IN.
“What’s this shit? Majetano never speaks around me like that! What happened to her!?”
But at the same time, can we truly say she’s "changed"?
So, it twists the sweet memory you formed earlier into something bitter, shatters the secret you privately held, and exposes her pride as a farce—all at once. Manuri sensei…
