I really wish "gothic" alongside "black metal" meant more than just "synth organ and (usually synth) gospel singing" and "dark pulp fantasy aesthetics" since I'd enjoy something that sounds like goth rock x black metal quite a bit, but here we are. There's a lot here; it's a very mixed bag, which I guess is to say it's very diverse. The vocals, some of the "sounds", and even the titles seem to border on self-parody. I'm not sure if that comes from the ridiculousness of this brand of metal and the music itself or the fact that this niche subset has been lampooned and toyed with by the avant-garde scene pretty heavily.
That being said, though he did have another band on Metallum, I am not interested in checking it out despite there being some diamonds in the rough here. There's just so much competent metal out there that sounds like a rough approximation of this to really strike my interest when I'm chewing through at least an album a day.
(And believe me, with metal, it's fucking exhausting. To try and "get into it", it takes a lot of you and you really can't just binge through shit without your judgement getting affected and it all sliding off you so I'm a little judicious with what I listen to with THE ALBUM GAME.
