>you don't seem aware of how judgemental you actually are and just think you're a casual guy who hates elitists.
I don't take any particular issue with elitism, I just think it's fruitless circlejerking when it comes to music in particular. Elitism around what types of games you play is different because games require skill and

>Not putting this eloquently but there's some huge lapse in judgement here where you think going one level of condescension up is superior because "Actually, fuck music" and that your hatred of hipsters doesn't trickle down to hating the people hipsters snoot on even though when you intuitively follow the train of logic, it still fucking does.

I do resent those blatant trend-hopping types too, they have the same pretensions to sophistication with even less to justify it. I just don't think putting more effort into listening to obscurer music makes you any better. It's all dumb.

>Also, another fun part of exploring music is that you get to learn more about music itself, intuitively. Exploring why stuff works or doesn't work for you is a part of self-discovery and it can help you grow a greater appreciation of the stuff you do like.

>And yes, even though you might deride it as THE ULTIMATE PINNACLE OF HIPSTERDOM, finding something that you really like that's obscure is fun!
This is at least more believable than "the 10/10 song heard by 3 other people is just so peak bro!". A comparison I would make is browsing through itch.io for random new games, which I have done a few times, but there's so much crap and it's not something I enjoy nearly enough to make a habit of. Maybe people who participate in "obscure indie game" communities would find that fun for social reasons. Also, I'll concede that some "hipsters" do actually play instruments or make music which I respect to a degree since there is a component of merit and it's not entirely pointless escalating aesthetic signaling, however amateurish the music they create might be. Playing an instrument signals talent, intelligence, discipline, listening to a lot of weird music signals nothing really.

>And it's a great way to spark conversations with people if you have similar tastes because the metaphorical well is dry to all other existing music.

We dug up the lede. What all this harmless social fun meeting and connecting with new people leads to is >>58393. No reason why any of these judgements should exist in the first place over what music you listen to, it's an empty abstraction devoid of virtue.

>This kind of thing doesn't have to be some egocentric exercise in futility. Exploration, in general, is fun in of itself.

I think this argument is wearing on both of us, but there is more to be said here in that the expected value of what you might find while exploring is relevant as to how fun exploration is, you wouldn't just dig up your garden to explore for fun. And the value of undiscovered music is inflated by this culture of trends and aesthetic speculation. It wouldn't be as fun to look for music if you couldn't share it with anyone. And as someone who has little interest in sharing music with others, I don't have much interest in exploring music.

Unlike videogames which require button presses. Are you sure you aren't that guy on flimsychan?
>listening to a lot of weird music signals nothing really.
It signals something. It's not some grand virtue but it doesn't have to be. Experience is its own reward and there's an unspoken language to all things. You seem pervasively infatuated with these mechanical displays of prowess or skill or fucking whatever. You undermine all social interaction because you value "DOING THING" above that. But what point is doing something if not for others? They're inextricably linked. You seem to think that everything mentioned should be bragging rights; can't passion be enough? You don't seem to understand people whose passion is at least not consciously linked to their sense of power. Quite frankly, with the way your autistic (in the most antiquated use of the word possible) thought process functions, it'd be baffling if you weren't a fascist.
>And the value of undiscovered music is inflated by this culture of trends and aesthetic speculation.
Yes, but to denounce all music outside of the sphere of MEDIA when MEDIA is arguably the most centralized form of it (or at least the crossing of media and unrelated music for "aesthetic" such as: Laincore EDM or whatever) Yes, I don't like hipsters. I have complained about BM poseurs in this thread. But image is a powerful way of establishing identity that is synergistic with the actual music beyond the "image" of the music isolated. Base and superstructure. All that. Whatever. You're a really odd person.
