I also had the idea of "saving numbers" which is not only unoriginal since it bumps into multiple existing ideas I have, it's also just too high concept.

I really, really don't want it to be generic wholesome-to-scary.

My brain has taken the idea and reassessed it. I was thinking it should be some of literal maze inhabited by some kind of theologically ambiguous usury demon vaguely inspired by Melchom. I think the design would be some of nebulous gargoyle because I try to avoid superficial aesthetic influences.

I was thinking again of some resource system (which my brain always goes back to.) I'm imagining using color-coded (maybe explicitly 中庸 on a real life pre-existing coin system if I can find one interesting and relevant enough) where you start out with an excess amount of coins of higher value (but sort of in the median range so that this dynamic plays out) where you can use their actual value or their amount for a variety of numeric puzzles. For obvious reasons, I think the lowest value coin should be 2. The relative value of the coin goes up the less ones you have. I need some way to encourage the central dynamic since value is logically almost always the better option but flat stipulations seem uninteresting and dare I say, contrived.

Multiple endings depending on coin count and variety? The puzzles SMURFING hurt and cost resources so I can't think of a good reason to do them; I was assuming they're some kind of way of paying debt by the demon. Perhaps you yourself were a loaner and you free the souls of the lives you lead to debauchery or squalor (depending on their fortune) due to your use of the inherently evil mechanism of investment with interest…

I gave this out in a very stream-of-consciousness way. This is probably my best shot. I feel like the haiku explanation is very "digital"-coded and this wouldn't have that.

As for the haiku itself, I wouldn't see the game being very applicable and I'd have to think on how to make it work so I'm still not satisfied. :nailbiter:

This is basically the point where I'm frustrated and give up so so much for being "limited-scope." :tap:

So maybe the puzzles are just for the people (another loan) and you owe the demon your soul's weight in coin. :notes:
>Is there any redemptive aspect?
Probably not. I think you're just damned no matter what but your comparative misery is lessened by what you offer the demon (say you move up from one circle of Hell to another in a shorter span of hundreds of years when the "debt" is thousands and the punishment is still eternal- just lesser.)

It undermines both your willingness to sacrifice or your desire to lessen your misery which I think is: horrific.

All pretty grim. Lo-fi pop has to be the worst thing to happen to bad fidelity since something…

I blame all this emergent shitty "retro" synth pop (and I guess equally lo-fi BEATS TO CHILL TO AND RAPS TO MUMBLE) for blackgaze. People are trying to cash in a genre known for low-fidelity for a mainstream audience with "edge."

We need a counter-force. Bring back… disco… Symphonic… disco… No synthesizers. Just a live orchestra doing disco.

These don't seem to be my people. For one, they seem like complete normaldregs. Two, I yearn for shit, blood, and cum. This is soft Y2K nostalgia- the same you find everywhere. Neo-scene stuff.

I hate to retread ground and I know I say that a lot but we (Americans, which I'm assuming most of these "soft Y2K" nostlagia places mainly comprise of) grew up on 9/11- in every possible sense. We grew up to just barely remember/see it or live in a world radically affected by it in our most foundational years. It was basically the easiest shock joke for like a decade because of how devastating it was for the country. The New World Order established by the NSA caused a cultural shift in media, both big and small, to become fixated on going past the limits of good taste for the sake of it. A decade where privacy and censorship were the foremost concern of Americans; what do we have now?

I'm just repeating myself. Whatever. I feel like you tricked me. :decline:

Revolutionary how? :buh:

And also, seemingly, no.

All I know is that I can't think of a single Gen-Z artist that's carrying the zeitgeist of "Adult Swim, Newgrounds, and South Park." I don't know what they're carrying or what they stand for or how they reflect our global culture's history, even through nostalgia besides being a Hecking bisexual and some reflexive pop-cultural echos. What defines this generation besides being more diverse in sexuality and gender, apathy, anti-intellectualism, passivity, listlessness and toothlessness? I guess that's a lot of things. A lot of things not to be that seems directly contrary to what you'd expect us to retain.

No, it's more-or-less because he was a dick that hated kids.

His books are very memorable and I think they serve a very important use to children in spite of their quality (in part because kids- who like reading, and if they don't you already SMURFED up- need to read books they think are bad or don't enjoy to develop critical thinking sculls)

My take is that awards shows should be judged by peers and the deliberation should be public and they should have to write at least one paragraph on why they think the thing is good. Nominees and winners should maybe be separate groups, too. It wouldn't be immune to corruption but it would be more entertaining and have more value. Critics and consumers voting is fundamentally stupid because their voices are already heard very loudly, plus you'd hope game developers would have a different set of standards.

>Proof?
All I got for you is article slop. It's "conjecture" but I think most people would come to a similar conclusion if they've read what I've read.

There's been some whitewashing and lampshading of this fact by himself and people with a vested interest in his legacy but he definitely comes off as creatively frustrated when you read all his books in totality, with just this in mind barring his history or any specific quotes.
>His novels usually involve a child with positive traits.
Because of his fixation on perfect children; he had an ideal and seemed annoyed by regular children. This is illuminated, somewhat, in his 8ITCHing about The Chocolate Factory adaptation ("No, Charlie must LITERALLY be perfect, how dare you make the story more about Willy Wonka's self-realization")
>I thought the author had a perverted sentimentality and was unafraid to confront the worst things in life.
Semi-true? He had very black-and-white thinking. All of the morbid stuff is less him thinking about kids and more just stemmed from his own nature; he had a morbid mind, he wasn't exactly thinking of the kids (an early draft for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was scrapped because it was way too dark and his nephew said he didn't like it at all) but that's how he found his niche.

I liked James And The Giant Peach too but hated the movie for some reason.

FROM THE DESK OF
ROSE LALONDE
:prose:

Chaos;Mid NAH Review:

I didn't really like any of the characters, whose personalities ranged from lacking depth to obnoxious. The protagonist was especially unlikeable. Most of the routes didn't elicit much of a reaction from me because I didn't care about the characters. The plot seems good on paper, but the way it is presented is anti-dramatic. It goes from nothing making sense to suddenly almost everything making sense, and in the end the biggest mystery is left unexplained. During the first part where nothing made sense, I found it hard to care because I assumed there couldn't be a clever explanation for all the nonsense, and my assumption turned out to be correct. Still, there were a few kino moments such as the scene on top of the skyscraper, the hand in a box, Sena route ending which kept me reading, but overall it wasn't enough to redeem the rest and the true ending wasn't very interesting. Getting all the endings was a slog even with the skip feature. The music and art were pretty good. I think I would have enjoyed the original VN more since it has fewer routes.

Really embarrassing in terms of writing, gameplay, and spritework (and not in the endearing way that I think that most Nip RPGMaker affairs are. You can argue that I only find them charming because COOL JAPAN and I don't know if I can argue against that) but at least the dev being a horny spic led to a sexy design so… that's that.

I looked up his name to confirm he was a spic and instead got confirmation that hey, we've seen this guy before.

Titty monster proportions are what he's best known for. Pinocchiogoria is probably his best known game and best game, from what I know. Unfortunately, the jiggle physics were only used for an obese elderly woman but knowing him, that still probably gets him off.

I thought I was at a loss RPGMaker horror wise but a serendipitous upload occurred. After I'm done with that, I'm going to have to do a deep dive and try and find a truly consistent, recent, and active channel for this kind of thing. :drinky:

Sometimes I wonder how the Rod Sterlings/Vault of Horrors/Haunt of Fear/Tales from The Crypt/Stephen Kings of the world were able to write so many anthology horror stories. Obviously, yes, some of them were bad and a lot of collaboration was involved with some of these examples but still. I feel like novel horror ideas are hard to come up with as opposed to novel gags or sci-fi one-offs.

I've wanted, for a long time, to be able to train my brain into horror anthology mode but I always work best with a long-form story. I don't think that's just me. I think a lot of people struggle with that and pander to the lowest common denominator of spooky monster or :coolidea: That is to say that the "story" part of "short story" is left out and horror, unlike again, comedy or science fiction, is something that is strongly rooted in narrative structure. Tension and release.

I agnostically arecommend it unless you're a fan of werewolf/mafia (which I am), it gets grindy having to do runs over and over to advance the story. The writing of characters/lore is simplistic and I don't care that much about the story but I'll probably finish it.

I didn't realise it before, but from what I've gathered Depth Loop may play more similarly to this game than to Raging Loop (see pic related, but I don't think it's actual "AI"). That might solve the problems of Gnosia if it has good writing like Raging Loop.

This game got me thinking about how a werewolf simulation could be improved. I was surprised by how streamlined and fun Gnosia's runs were to play, despite the fact that the characters repeat the same lines and there's no illusion that you're doing more than playing solitaire against bots with randomly assigned roles. I wondered about some kind of "argument" system where you can freely construct statements about the players, behaviour, and roles, and then the other characters reason about and react to them with their own nuanced arguments.

Why don't Spike Chuunisoft just make a multiplayer Danganronpa social deduction system with paid character DLC and a tedious character perk progression system? (split between culler and innocent) It would sell like hotcakes. :options:

Knowing them, it would also involve some sort of stupid, meta main story plotline which could follow 100L in that it has multiple endings 中庸 on who got the culler role (made slightly feasible by how many characters that would be locked behind a paywall), maybe exponentially if they're feeling up for it (it feels like they would be.) This justifies putting it at full-price and again, hotcakes. :ironball:

Eel oh eel. Maybe that's how it should have been. But Hu¢¢ie hit a gold mine when he accidentally wrote the perfect "two kind of girls to be friends with guys." He just failed to capitalize on it because of fears of writing saccharine puppy love or writing thirteen year old boys and girls how they should be in general (John's "wet t-shirt contest" letter is his highest achievement in this regard and not-so-incidentally, an important part of grimdorks canon.) Actually, to go even further with this, it becomes clear that the Kids early on were written to all have sets of insecurities (except GREEN because, you know) but it all comes out in the wash to woobify Dave. Later Homestuck makes it clear that Dave is the insecure one™ and Rose is just guarded, self-destructive, and paranoid and John's insecurities mostly manifest in the form of psychotic chimp rage so his behavior becomes almost pathological- GREEN realizes she's ronery, I guess.

So again, comic about KIDS AND FUN turns into the author's favorite character featuring character assassinations on everyone else.

Neither of these are boiled down because neither of these are what they "should" be. Alternatively, you could just fuse Yosuke with Kanji but that's leaning more into "What if you gave the characters arcs in the main game story" which is far away from first-draft things you'd change.

I think you're right, it would be wildly successful. Fire Emblem Shadows even tried this and Fire Emblem has nothing to do with werewolf. I wondered if maybe they don't know how to make real games, but 100L exists and had reasonably polished gameplay.

 No.169135

The battle tracks in 13 sentinels were so good:elf:

 No.169136

I had an idea for a new type of game, it's a werewolf simulation that runs autonomously with NPCs on a website, but you can join in live at any time by taking the place of one of the NPCs. Also, to reduce server load the NPC actions are procedural with seeded RNG and only non-NPC actions are recorded. Completed game results would still have to be stored though if I wanted some kind of browsable game history, but everything that happened during the game could be dynamically recalculated. Someone could cheat with a VPN and control other players if they wanted to ruin their own fun, but I'll design around having 0-1 players.

Would be fun actually, my first suggestion was a future expansion where it could run a simulated "pokemon league", but that is rather fraught, given Ninty

>a simulated "pokemon league"
I think Twitch/Claude Plays Pokemon are enough to suggest that would be entertaining, but yeah also copywrong issues and coding in all the Pokemon and moves would be time consuming.

>a loyal and customizable partner

That's an interesting idea which would be natural to add if there's already AI for the NPCs. Maybe you could even configure your partner's personality and let them take over if you don't feel like playing yourself. There's a lot of opportunity for customisation for the NPCs too, there could be generations of evolving characters that players can vote on to influence their appearance and behaviour.

I legitimately can't remember if there was meant to be a saboteur or if the mechanics just naturally lead to such easy and effective griefing because the design was that bad. :wut:

Unironically, an emergent "social deduction game" where you're in a massive server and naturally, some people grief would be a lot of fun. If people saw that pitch, they'd steer away but it would make for great videos, occasional "normal games", and chaos for the people that'd enjoy that.

You kind of get that with TTT but uh, I know I'm not in the right place for TTT nostalgia because it's a bit past all your ojisans' time but it's kind of fallen off due to lootcrate servers and dregmins being on 24/7.

Big servers with no admins that devolve into half RDM and half "KoS this guy because he RDMs" was the most fun bullshit.
