>>39099Even the Japanese aren't free from the sin of enjoying Woodstock. John would be an insanely likable protagonist if he was in a more standard shonen work though, I strive for a world like that the one where that is the case.
Also, I'm going to get this thought out of my head but yeah, metanarratively, Woodstock does kind of work in the sense that all of the convoluted gobbledygook is intentionally silly and the point is not to care about that and to care about the emotional core(s) instead like you-know-what but like,
smurfing, there's not much there when you strip all that stuff away and it just kind of sucks in general. The affect of absurdism (well, at least Woodstock's because it lacks specificity compared to something like Through The Looking-Glass. Yes, we can say it's all broadly about destiny but if we get into the specifics of every character- not to mention every thing- and I mean every character and not just Eridan and Vriska and Gamzee and Dave, it doesn't really apply. This is also just a counter-argument to the nebulous notion that Woodstock is a gestalt with my deliberately ambiguous counter-example. What confrontation does John, the literal main character, have with expectations of him when growing up?) isn't really powerful in its own right like a more general feeling of foreboding or helplessness or alienation.

A lot of the time, I'm frustrated at indie devs and how they're willing to half-ass an idea instead of trying to build up enough capital and know-how with smaller projects in order to actually realize their dream game. On the other hand, I dislike trendy cashgrabs. But there's a healthy medium unless your only idea is "what if dark souls had a sanity meter" and so that's all you'll ever make.

grimdorks post I made but I didn't bother to keep it going. I could have always turned LE SWITCHEROO ritualposting into a thing but I never bothered. I kind of like that I'm not remembered enough to be hated. I regret doing those things in the first place, kind of just regret publicly talking about my feelings with Woodstock in general because they'll come back to haunt me if someone ever bothers to track me for whatever reason, I don't necessarily have to be relevant somehow, 4chan types are just like that but… I don't know, I kind of regret existing… Especially with the digital footprint I've created and doubly so with the kinds of circles I've been around.

Indie devs could work on smaller single-player "campaign" (for lack of a better word) type games instead of shitting out some half-baked simulator game they'll be tied to updating for the rest of their career or fishing for a breakout success with some multiplayer game that ceases to function without an active playerbase.

It's stuff like this that feels like it's beyond laziness and it makes me question the sanity of the creator. I'm not saying he has to be completely batshit, just some kind of restless neurotic. I guess there's an argument to be made that C*sh has a few screws loose going by this logic but I'm content to just call her a p-zombie because she was hired to do a job for an existing character while Tats can, within reason, do whatever he wants (as long as he's still making far right content) and he just spins in circles, makes unsubtle, artless garbage, and has zero fun while doing it. C*sh is a shitty, hack artist who doesn't care about what she's making while Tats is in a position where you'd think he'd be able to make something fulfilling to him and just doesn't and maybe even can't for whatever reason.

I don't have it in my heart right now but my brain went back to think about Matt Groening and his stupidly limited proper credits on episodes of his shows but also and especially his list of autistic rules which were either irrelevant or seemed to actively be detrimental to the show (and were broken because of it.) He had some stuff about staying on-model with the central family (fine, whatever, but it's something that's a little undermined considering how much of the show's peak focus is centered around the ensemble and Groening wasn't autistic enough to write out guides for every character) but then there's stuff like "Homer can't forget his own name" which at most prevented one really bad joke or stuff like "There can't be cartoon logic" and "No exaggerated expressions" which I can't fathom the logic behind (and which "Golden Age Simpsons" broke.) The only justification I can see behind it is some feeble attempt at garnering respectability for a CARTOON which seems more than a little misguided if not outright soullessly cynical. Yes, we want it to be for an adult audience but what was the point of making them yellow not!bunnies if everything you did was within the realm of a sitcom? Did this vision challenge the notion that cartoons were… cartoony? Yes, but again, it just makes the medium questionable. Did The Simpsons shake up the sitcom formula? Yes, but as I've said before, it seems a little overstated; "the dysfunctional family is EVEN MORE dysfunctional" Moreover, back to what I said before, what was the point of making everyone a racially ambiguous freak if you were going to add brown people? I was under the impression that The Simpsons were meant to be aracial and only implicitly white in the sense that they were a suburban family and blah blah blah some high-minded though exceedingly dull liberal measured optimism about the future of the American family. I'm no Simpsons historian but I'm pretty sure that Carl was the first black person and if the joke was that "Everyone is yellow except a token black guy", that'd be fine but Smithers was originally intended to be black but they were uncomfortable with the undertones (even though it'd make the character, in my opinion, slightly funnier and would have probably been some of the most efficient and legitimately transgressive satire on the show.) There was no real guiding hand or strong creative vision behind most of the shit, especially the good shit.
I don't understand how people, especially people that love The Simpsons and know this rule shit even better, don't have more contempt for Matt Groening. He is very transparently a sell-out despite his anti-authority posturing and none of what he outlined for The Simpsons really contributed to what made it good (though it was partially what made it initially successful) and if he had his way and actually put his foot down for shit, the show would have suffered immensely. Now I'm not saying there are a bunch of people out there stroking his dick because that's simply not true and most people rightfully don't bring him up in conversations about what people made The Simpsons good but there is this muted air of respect around him.
But he's everything an artist should hate. He was a selectively edgy and market-minded spineless leech that didn't even stick up for his shit ideas and got rich off other's people's work because he was the guy attached to the name. There are basically two generations that are completely fine with this though and all of the critical thinking regarding The Simpsons seems to skirt around Groening's nonplussed impotence and even occasionally makes a nod to him ("Oh, look, Groening didn't want Homer being too stupid or too mean, how based.") Sure, he can't be scapeawesomesauce for the show's downfall but he's definitely not the master architect of it actually being funny once upon a time. Is he not the perfect symbol for what to hate? I don't get how all these leftists, punks, or really anyone remotely irreverent turn a blind eye to the most lame and unmerited breakout success story in all of cartoons. In fact, I'd argue he's secretly the biggest sacred cow in cartoons. People can shit on Hanna-Barbera and say it ruined the industry, people love to bring up Walt Disney's dirty laundry, people feel free to call Tex Avery dated but it seems like a
smurfing miracle for literally anybody to suggest that maybe, just maybe, Matt Groening doesn't deserve to be a multimillionaire.

Got a funny idea for a JRPG where things kind of just happen. So like, you might have a paladin and a rogue at the beginning of your adventure, and the two fight constantly. She's a paragon of virtue and his ethics are flexible. Their fighting helps establish a group dynamic for a good portion of the game. At some point, they have to leave the party. The paladin's become incredibly sick, so the rogue bravely volunteers to take her back to a doctor in a previous village all by himself. You don't hear back from them because you gain new party members pretty soon after that, and they have their own stories going on. By the time you get to the endgame, you can travel to one of the towns from the beginning to find the paladin and rogue living together with a baby. The idea is an RPG where you just have a lot of party members come and go because they've got their own stuff going on, so some guy might just leave your party because he just received word that his daughter is getting married or some guy's brother just got back home from the military. You might even have someone who got a letter saying their missing cur has been found.

Tentative tile is "Everyone Abandons Me: The Lonely Soul". For extra funnies, I think every character should have some kind of skill tree with unique abilities and moves that you can unlock with points gained upon leveling up. The catch is that once a character leaves, you never get them back, essentially making it pointless. Might add replay value for grindan addicts. Also adds some flavor to characters as well. Maybe instead of breaking his curse at the end, MC-kun finds the one person who won't leave his side, or maybe it's the person who cursed him in the beginning. When it comes to the other characters leaving, I think everything should be framed as serious or mysterious before you see the payoffs at the endgame

smurf all to say, huh? I can't imagine being a career pundit and being this vapid. It's not even just the lack of empiricism, though that is a problem, he should be able to shit out statistics on command instead of motioning towards generally true things, but the rhetoric here is laughably shallow. The exchange here is basically "Japanese people have good values" "Yeah, but they're not white and being white is more important." Why? Who really knows, I understand politispergs tend to default to base talking points when confronted but these aren't talking points, they're just appeals to racialism with no real internal logic. What, at the end of the day actually matters about being white? "Values"? How are Japanese and American values different? He didn't get specific because this is something he could actually get wrong and Japanese man doesn't really press him on it for probably similarly stupid reasons. Fuentes is quick to go to stereotypes about Asians and academic success and then backs down when there's pushback. Japanese suicide rates spike around September and it reached its all-time high this year btw.

>Redditors defending the Rose 君子 shit
I still find it tiresome to see. I thought r/Woodstock had come around but there are still people willing to defend nu-shit.
Their analysis however does unintentionally reveal that the Rose character assassination goes deep. Remember how suspicious Rose was about GREEN?
>Oh, that's just because she knew more than her
That doesn't stop her from trying to get one up on people that knew more than her later.
>Maybe it mattered more to her because she was a peer
I'm not going to go down this line of thought specifically but it's pretty clear from the wizard shit that Rose scoffs at authority so her relying on others for information (even if she intended to subvert them) is hard to swallow (though the argument can be made that this is perfectly analogous to Complacency of The Learned which is the best argument for this shit possible but there's a difference between getting knowledge from sources and obeying what they tell you to do like she did. I also think it's missing the forest for the trees in the sense that it implies Rose would act out this fantasy even though it's a reflexive deconstruction born out of her affinity for wizards that she likes to underplay because she thinks it's childish. It's not necessarily about making Rose more or less mature- she's immature if she balks at the idea of living out her wizardfic because of what her rationale would be- it's about making her act less meaningfully like Rose. There was a decently complex idea here and Hu¢¢ie managed to dilute it. Rose's sincerity when it came to wizards is never really addressed like Dave's relationship with irony so I'm completely inclined to believe Hu¢¢ie just forgot about it despite it being arguably pretty central to her character if not perfectly emblematic.)
>And GREEN was more suspect because she wasn't willing to share everything she knew
You can say that's why she was uncomfortable but it's equally suspicious for her sources to give her everything she wanted when they're so clearly cosmic entities. "She's stupid" only goes so far. A whole bunch of the grimdark shit relies on you believing Rose is some insanely prideful egomaniac that thinks she can outsmart God when that's never hinted at before- she doesn't ever even try to outsmart or contradict GREEN (even though that would have been interesting and more fitting and believable because it's closer to an equal. Smurf Hu¢¢ie's writing between female characters.) The whole grimdark arc and alcoholic thing are born from Hu¢¢ie's contempt for the pedantic and persnickety, I refuse to believe they're genuine expressions of character growth or development. Everything about early Rose suggests that she's careful to a fault.
>Oh, but changing circumstances
No, it's a complete 180 and there's no scene where she comes to a slow realization about what she can now do. Rose's first log with Doc Scratch is a retcon that establishes she's been in contact with him for awhile and she's 100% complacent with working under his instruction. But she's also confident enough to not listen to his warnings about the horrorterrors (what was the point of this? What exactly is his motivation when he's omniscient and atemporal?), listening to them as well.
>But Jack scared her and she was acting out of panic
Just making shit up at this point. We have no clear idea when she started talking to Doc or the horrorterrors and it's something that's retroactively confirmed, the earliest mention of it makes it clear it was on-going. The impetus couldn't have been Mom getting killed (even though that would be good writing) because it happened too late, it might have just been Jack getting Bec's powers. I could get into more specifics but I won't. (Rose immediately gives up all hope and becomes fatalistic and is willing to risk it all on, well, among other things, a SBurb mechanic even though she distrusts the game and wants to break out of it AND the exact cause of her despair was born from the mechanics of the game? This is the same Rose that made a long-haul plan with Dave over months to save the timeline without resorting to slapdash gobbledygook? OH, BUT MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE HOW DOC KNEW NOT TO CONTACT HER IN THAT TIMELINE, shut the smurf up. Really, more logically we can say that Davesprite's Rose acted differently because all of the other elements weren't established yet which is still bad writing but saves some face. It doesn't change the fact that the scenario still existed in the comic and in arguably worse circumstances, Rose still chose to do a methodical plan working ALONGSIDE her friend) And, uh, we don't see her reaction to that, that has to be interpolated and yes, while it can be argued that stuff like that isn't bad writing, I do think stuff like this in Woodstock is bad writing given the gestalt and the fact that stuff like this is entirely used for cheap shock and awe, but also, I don't really buy the logic behind it. In general, recklessness in the face of fear is kind of a hard sell especially when you don't have some strong pretext for us to understand that's how the character would act- which we obviously didn't. Early Rose is not the same as grimdark Rose on a fundamental level- the fact there's a reveal that she was talking to a previously unseen character off-screen should have clued you in to the fact that there was some gobbledygook writing going on.
I know it's kind of fruitless to talk about the integrity of characters with so little to initially go off on (but this is one of Woodstock's few strengths; the strong starts characters get, especially the.. well, three of the Beta Kids) and say that once the actual story happened, they got corrupted in some way but this is like a black-and-white switch. Woodstock has some really strong introductory segments which makes any incongruity glaring- it's much harder to say that a character morphed from their "post-introduction self" to an even newer self (though I still think that did happen with Terezi and Vriska.) Stuff like John's listlessness even though it's an emergent, unintended property (born largely from lazy, lifeless writing) reads more like a "real" thing. Everything involving Rose past LE SWITCHEROO seems to be at her expense and/or an ebin TWEEST to throw intrigue or drama into the mix. Hu¢¢ie does not give a shit about her and might unironically hate her more than GREEN.
All of this just addressed the grimdark shit and not the alcoholic shit which is really just lampshading how stupid the grimdark arc was while creating some token relationship drama that Kanaya should have frankly been over by that point which is really all that needs to be said on that.

Is this the first time Krusty specifically has gotten a deal? This is certainly the first Treehouse of Horror specific one which feels like an especially sacred piece of Simpsons corpus to echo. I feel like Burger King would be more fitting since "Burger" is in the name of both. What's a fast food place that's something followed by burger…? I'm surprised there isn't a small chain of Krusty Burgers in Hollywood, frankly, there is one at Universal which is expected and also different but I dunno', it feels like The Simpsons tapped into so many markets, they would have at least tried it in its heyday.
I also wonder how Jack In The Box got the money or maybe vice versa? It feels like such a piece of shit that nobody likes and I'm surprised COVID didn't murder it like some chain restaurants I actually liked. SMURFING VOUCHER for a cup. I thought this area was too young and old for this (without the in-between of millennials) Now I don't know what to think. I got tricked into buying Jack In The Box and I have to get more if I want to get even a single cup. Thanks, Matt Groening.

The character designer for TF2 then did the designs for Supervive which were pretty ugly and generic; generic in the very ugly way. I'd saying it's probably the case of Valve development
Gargamel's Castle magic that made the merc designs good in the end product. I think a lot of Valve is a bunch comparatively untalented people trying really, really hard and endlessly iterating based on QA and playtester feedback because they want to maintain an image of prestige. There isn't really a set standard for who gets the first say in the industry for this type of game and I really, really, really doubt that Deadlock is that thought-out so I can 100% see the design team just being vibes and then they design the backstory and the kit, especially considering that DEI is a factor. Maybe they come up with the kit first. But I sincerely doubt the writing came first for any of them when it comes to those three things. It's either "We need a character who transforms" or "I drew a werewolf bountyhunter!"

Valve is seen as a triple threat so trying to pin this down is kind of fruitless. But I think the assumption is stupid.
>1920s-ishIt's 1940s. And they have all these diverse characters with different ethnicities and races and even some sexualities but nobody gives a shit but it's still the 1940s. I don't even think anyone is uncomfortable with the monsters or supernatural. Are they going to ever make a monster hunter character? There's Haze and OSIC but she's a freak too so she doesn't really care about people being supernatural on its own. Is that kind of thing too risque for WOKE? I don't know why most alt!history stuff doesn't just say that the introduction of magic stunted culture and technology and set it in a reasonable timeframe for SOCIAL PROGRESS but it's not a huge deal. We can suspend our disbelief. But nobody really acts like it's the 1940s either other than the memey sort of hipster shit with the strongman and maybe one other character. Whatever.
>>39769Don't encourage him. I always took the ol' timey GOLLY GEE, GOODNESS GRACIOUS, I HAVE SUCH GUMPTION hipster shit as a millennial thing. Woodstock/Problem Sleuth clearly played to that but most of Hu¢¢ie's fanbase has always been younger than him. You can say it's a gen-x thing, that hipsters are a gen-x thing.
