I am once again reminded of the "need" for an RPG Maker horror Steam curator and public dicsord server. I'm preemptively imagining having to hand the keys to the kingdom off to some seemingly good-intentioned rando because I'm too controversial of a person to be a public figure for a space that's meant to be "inclusive" though I'd still run the curator… and other things…

>>11317I mean, the cycle is always the same. It starts out probably rough-and-tumble, then it settles, then the purity testing starts, then an inner-circle is formed, and then the circlejerk is finalized… It's not ideal but that's just always how it kind of goes and I think its existence as a thing to help prop people up and support a community outweighs the inevitable in-fighting.

If they are going "war bad" about a war started by Russia or another BRICS country, they will usually find a way to blame the whole thing on America and the CIA. The pink blood and lack of visceral gore turns me off. But so do the characters. Deathgames are best when they're just scared, normal people with personalities that are difficult to discern, if at all possible. Not gimmick characters.

Japanese thing that SA actually likes as an exception: Ace Attorney.

It really makes
GREEN such an insufferable character beyond just "girl in the group" blandness. It's boring. Most of the "nice" characters in Woodstock just kind of smooth things over, there's no insight to be gleamed from their responses to anything. It makes these static characters, static relationships, and static stories so much more tedious because you have wet paper that are "nice" but have no clear-cut values or principles they abide by.
>But what about the Karkat-GREEN developmentA rare example of SOMETHING gradually changing in Homeshit and not being an asspull or retcon. But, keep in mind, this was hours from
GREEN's perspective. This is also a development that's kind of insufferable to read because it goes from
GREEN putting her foot down to just going "oh you card!" like John to Karkat. Yes, Karkat does say "Sorry" but it means
smurf-all ultimately because he's still Karkat and then they barely interact past this point. If anything you'd want to see the opposite happen with
GREEN accepting his bullshit because he's helpful and then refusing to talk to him or Karkat actively holding his tongue around
GREEN.
And we can pretend that Karkat had development when really he just pivoted because there was nothing he could do or plan or complain about. You can assume he's the exact same person. It just sucks to read.
All of this is ultimately just the result of all the characters needing to be mean-spirited to be funny and the nice characters just not having jokes. Everything is on the altar of letting people be rude, crass, callous, and hyper-critical because it's the only well of humor. So characters are just sort of forced to take it and not interact with who they actually like and there are basically no jokes to be had when there are two "nice" characters are on screen. JohnRoxy logs are some of the most insufferable in the comic. Where's the funny? Nice consolation price, btw.
While we're on the topic of Woodstock '99, why did Sollux become pissy again after becoming half-dead? He doesn't have his lisp and he can't hear voices. He's barely asked to get involved with things but he still acts like pre-blind Sollux. It's an especially sharp contrast with Aradia who actually did change (circumstantial and superficial as it may be); does he just like the idea of pissy Sollux with someone nice and bubbly (formerly Feferi)? That's the only reason I can think of. Also, old Formspring answer said that Sollux and Aradia's relationship is better left kind of ambiguous but everyone knows. Sollux swapping over to Feferi in the first place is also kind of baffling but that's for another day; we can half-justify it with pre-death Aradia being like Feferi but Sollux also seemed to dig the ghost and robot (who is only incidentally different from the ghost with her acts of rage which I presume Sollux would be fine with given his own tendencies?) version of her. It reads like forced drama, probably because it is.
