Watchmen is rather experimental in its narrative presentation for "capeshit"; there's not much like it in that respect. But what Watchmen is not (just like Evangelion is not for mecha) is the be-all-end-all of comic book deconstructions. Watchmen is a rather lopsided character study that best works as something attacking vigilantism as a myopic chud power fantasy (men with Blue Line Punisher skulls on the back of their car HATE it) and it does that rather well. But vigilantism is only a small part of what capeshit is.
Powerscaling autism, rogue's gallery bullshit, all that conflict about secret identities (,etc) aren't really addressed by it (I can see this being debated but whatever.) And those are topics that are addressed by capeshit capeshit all the time, especially the lattermost. The thing that I think closest to trying to be a omnibus of addressing every trope in superhero fiction is fucking Invincible which seems completely directionless and just turns into some of the Futurama movies at several points because reasons and then it ended and the only thing of note from it is that Atom Eve shits a lot.
So really the answer is up to you. Do you like the general idea of superheroes or do you pine for "FUCKING DECONSTRUCTIONRINOES" no matter how tentatively that's defined?
